That's a toughie. The gov't contracts the work done, at a savings to the taxpayer. When you see a gov't employed highway worker, it's usually 1 supervisor, 3 watchers & one worker. When you pass through a private contractors road job, it's usually two workers & one watcher/supervisor.
I'm for it. Since the faster a road job is completed, the less money it tends to cost the taxpayer, and since it's a specialized occupation that doesn't put people in jeopardy to finish faster, it's a matter of convenience to turn it over to the private sector.
