What bugs me is that we could be putting things in place to get this sorted, but most democratic states lack the political will to do so.

I'm using the 32bit beta of windows 7 on the laptop I'm using now, and all is well. Much better than Vista. I'm using the 64bit beta on my desktop, and its snappier than XP, which surprised me. The desktop is: Asus M2N Athlon X2 6000 2 x 2GB ddr2800 9800GT

My wife was doing some scanning this evening on her PC, and dropped a book on the keyboard. Now her screen is inverted, top to bottom, and the log on screen won't accept her user name. She's running Win2K pro, fwiw. Can anybody help with this?

You could be right there. I'll track down an iso with sp2, instead.

Actually, I downloaded the iso via uTorrent. It worked just fine to intall xp in my own machine, but didn't work after I wrote the serial number on the disc. And the other two I burned also didn't work.

I guess it must have been the cd. I've installed win2K, ands its working so far.

?( I'm in the process of recycling an older PC to introduce an elderly gentleman to the internet. The PC has 512meg of ram, and a celeron running at 800mhz. It was running XP pro when I got it. I've formatted it at the previous owner's request, and I'm using a disk I burned with XP Pro...

I talked to the local auto-sparky, and he charges $40/hour, and is massively over worked. The customers I've had so far have been happy enough with the prices. I'll have a look at the other suggestions too, thanks folks, this is just what I needed.

On the original topic of this thread, I think I'm stuffed. 90% of the people in this part of the world think computers are secret magic. Hell, I'm setting up a tech support business. But then, I'm effectively a noob here anyway.

Largely 'cause of my wife's mental illness. Because of her BPD, she's burned a lot of bridges, and she has anxiety problems living in a city. My biological father has retired to Tassie, and he's a real help.
