arris is correct while we could stop them from actually joining, we cant stop them from reading what has been posted. (we could but then NOBODY could ever read if you werent a member) and i think that would discourage new potiential members from joining.
Gato has valid points too. We are not their parents. I have 2 boys that i wont let come here until a certain age.(they are much to young now to worry about. they would actually have to read and semi understand the words)
But what your considering is censorship and discrimination to come into play. And how much are you really willing to live with?
We have seen many times already that if a new or for that matter old one is added or found out the masses scream an injustice has been done. And frankly it makes me very leary to do anything for fear the reprocussions. At this point we have had a no win situations too much.

So then what happens when there's someone over 16 that acts like they're 2 years old? The user base gets mad because we throw them in the kiddie korner or ban them because they were technically over the age limit.

Woreable? I don't see anything wrong with his posts OR his caps, but that isn't the dicussion of this thread. I've yet to see someone over 16 act like a 2 year old.

it's not our responsibility to prevent kids reading what is posted here. that's what parents are for in the first place.
and we don't want to turn this place into a member unfriendly nazi like fortress with nothing but strict rules and modifications and even more rules to prevent kids from posting/reading here.

what we can do is make sure we aren't responsible for them...but that is already done for kids under 13.

To those of you who agree that if the parents don't take the time to monitor their children's surfing habits then we shouldn't: (and please answer honestly) Does it bother you in the least to post about the topics Q brought up and their effects on impressionable 13 year olds? Or do you just not care about it enough to support a higher age limit?

That's what's driving my feelings on this and although I've abstained from posting much in the 'drugs are cool' or 'blow job' threads, I still worry about the real life effects that's going to have on them.

Maybe I just have an over-active conscience and shouldn't be worrying about people I'll never meet in RL.

I still say 13 is to young. I'm talking about participation, not reading...Once they enter a thread as a participant it censors the life out of the thread. And those who have deciced to post without regard for the age of that participant are being chastised by other members....As I said to Altron when he asked...I would have no problem if I knew the parents were ok with them being here. I can't imagine that that is the case for any of those under 16.... And the idea of posting as usual sounds good, but I find myself not participating in many threads just because there is a 13/14 year old participating...
I believe an example was once fronted about imagining we were at a party and a 13 year old walked in while a racey discussion were taking place. Would we be ignorant to them or not, blah, blah...I think we would send them out of the room......

jerrek, just raising the age in the AUP would not be suffiffcient. anyone can fool the computer. The problem lies when then we post a thread about age and they post their real age. or post in a manner that you can tell their age. I wish it were a more cut and dry type of situation, but its not.

I really hope that you don't raise the age limit because I like coming and posting here.......if you take that away from me......i'd go crazy :headbang:

Perhaps some of the younger members should explain what it is that attracts them to this particular forum....It might help to know what they really think...

Lol that's what I thought too when I saw it. Then I remembered it's not my AV anymore... :D

Lacemyster, you have my old av that I gave up for the one I have now, just so you know what we're talking about. :)

No, it doesn't bother me at all. Once they have internet access, these things can be found all over. Do you think it's bad explaining what a blowjob is? Hell there are plenty of pictures and even movies to find if they want. At that age (11-13) I had already access to magazines and porn material. Most people I know had. I don't think it brought me any issues

But thats the point, AS...There is a big difference between them accessing stuff and US participating in those discussions with them...Access is their parent's responsibility to monitor. Once you participate in those discussions with a 13 year old, YOU have taken the responsibility of what impression you've made. If there were a way of knowing that their parents consented, I wouldn't mind. But I just can't imagine that that is the case...
