Quite nearly as stupid as the premise itself. Knowing a bunch of names off the top of your head does not make you fluent in geography. That was the point. Didn't expect you to get it.

Real geography entails more than the name of a country. It entails details of that country like its capital, the local dialect, the imports and exports common to that country, and its location on the map in relation to other countries and landmarks. Hell, most people don't know where to even start to glean that type of information.

What countries share a border with Germany? Do you know? How about Guam?

Guess you missed the Guam dig.

Okay, how about America, your own country. Name as many dialects as you can.

here's a few...

standard midwestern english
southern english (and numerous variations therein)
yooper/minnesotan (sarah palin dialect, sorta)
new england-ish
valley girl

there are dozens of minor regional and/or ethnic variations that some may consider dialects, but i really don't. e.g. i don't think "california english" (valley girl) really counts because it is essentially similar to standard midwestern english (i.e. the english used by most in the media)

of course there's tons of little markers of variation. (e.g. the chi-cAAA-go "accent" that refers to a few specific sounds but doesn't differ in literal meaning from standard midwestern. this specific form goes from about buffalo and rochester to across parts of ohio, michigan, indiana, and illinois.) but again, not really a meaningful dialect.

IIRC creoles and pidgins like gullah don't really count as dialects, exactly.

or, the simplest answer possible: anything that varies from standard midwestern english.

i was just signifyin'

(i will probably end up reading gates' shit on my ipad... what he studied is not too far from what i did... though with a vastly different population...)
