I forget which dye I used to get my hair back to that color (it's not as light as that but close) but it was the 6th or 7th time I tried it when it finally worked. I started with a light red dye and went lighter and lighter until I finally got to Ultra Light Blond before it would do anything. My mother says her hair was resistant to coloring too when she started.
