Does anyone know russian?

Tomorrow is a friend's birthday. Last year he sent me an e-mail greeting me in german. I would like to send him one in russian, but all the on-line translators I found give results in that crazy russian characters :retard: . I would like to know how it's spelled : "Happy birthday my friend" in russian, but with western characters. Thanks if any good soul can help me with this impossible task :)

The dashes represent the syllables and we did the best we could with the sounding out. There's a bunch of sounds that don't exist in English so it sounds funny.
