yeah, that's how it works here, i think it has something to do with cookies expiring when you close it.

I think it is better this way, i kind of hate clicking on "mark all threads as read" in vbulletin.

I tried setting the session expiration to -1, maybe that's it. Let me know if it works.

If it does, I'll work on some way to allow you to choose which way you want it to work.

This is a perfect example of what i've been bitching about all along. Last night when i got home this is what i got when i clicked view new posts. Great i thought, i'll repond to them in the morning. So i click on VNP this moring and they're all gone even though i didn't actually read them. Luckily i kept the page open from last night. Ok. Now that i feel i've communicated my point efficiently i'll shutup on the subject.

HeXp£Øi±, isn't it because you simply opened an OTC window and then shut it again?
I have no idea if this is the same for everyone, so I might just be stating the obvious, but when I go to OTC - if I leave some of the posts still marked with the 'new posts' symbol, and then close the OTC window - it'll wipe off all the new post markers that were there.

It should be operating correctly now. Forum lights and any lights on threads inside it will turn off once the "Mark forum read" link is clicked. The "Mark all forums read" link is now also next to the "Forum" text like it used to be

Ok, that's cool. One other thing if you will. Can we possibly have a link at the bottom of each thread that will mark just THAT thread read?

Threads are marked as read as soon you read them (only in your session cookie though - if you log out and log back in, threads in forums which you didn't mark as read will light back up).

To have a persistent mark thread read function would require an extremely large database for a board as active as this one.

Every time someone marks just an individual forum read, a record gets added to the markread table and is left there until the person clicks Mark all forums read. That part's not so bad, as we would have at the most, (members) * (forums) records in the table. But if persistent mark THREAD read is attempted, a record will be added to the database every time a person views a thread, until they mark that forum read. You can probably see where that would cause problems.

Ok, I understand the problem with the mark each thread, but my problem is this.

Obviously I have already read this thread. However, If I go back to the main page and search again, which I will do right now in a new window, the mark that the thread has new posts is still lit up. This is a problem when there are new posts in 20 or more threads especially when the board is active and the list keeps resorting itself to put the newests posts on top. Do you see what I mean?

Btw, if it's a great big hassle or you can't do anything about it, it's ok to tell me to fuck off and appreciate it for what it is, but if it's not I'd appreciate it even more.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's pretty much the way phpBB acted per session (reading the last thread in a forum would turn off the marker on the main page).

However, the person who wrote the persistent mark forums read hack (that I installed to get this functionality) never managed to respond with a way to automatically mark the forum read, and I certainly have no idea how to do it, so this is pretty much the closest I can get it to the way it was acting before, until we get vBulletin 3 (which if I'm not mistaken performs this way by default)

Just for clarification, the envelope is the marker I'm talking about. The down arrow next to the thread name is the link to go to the first post since your last visit. (Confusing, indeed...)

BTW, that redirect notice for marking individual forums read was starting to annoy me so I changed it to not show a redirect and just go back to the index page
