Those that smuggle are Egyptians as well as Palestinians. They smuggle the "contraband" (building materials especially, like a bag of concrete) and mark the prices way up to the general public (Palestinians). There is no recourse for the Palestinians who are buying from this black market. There is no legit way of purchasing these everyday items to fix their broken homes, etc.

This is not a problem from the Egyptian government, this is a problem with smuggling across the border.

US inspections before they cross into our territory but they never seem to catch the Chinese that get smuggled in all the time on cargo ships.

I am a supporter of Israel, but they really stepped into it this time. This could have been handled so much differently to avoid the PR catastrophe this became.
