It's Time!

After digging farther, and hearing some of the arguments on this subject....
I'd like to apologize for those first statements, and even the name of this thread.

I 'truly' believe Gen Pertaeus should have the chance to fully implement his
strategy(ies), and have 'at least' the time 'firstly' allotted, to get the mission
to a point where a 'fair' assessment can be made.

I surely disagree with H Reid's statements that the war is lost...
What a dumbass.

It surly doesn't make since to tell the man to go ahead, the pull the rug out
from under him, and our troops.

I still think many, maybe most Iraqis aren't as civilized, as need be, but....
they are human. We need not leave them to slaughter, if Gen Pertaeus
feels that would be the case.

I truly hope this latest bill, that has already been passed by the house,
gets voted down in the senate.
We don't need a veto on this, we need to show our 'support, for the troops
that have sacrificed so much in this already....And their families.

He'd been doing it for years. Nobody cared until we went in the first time, and then it was front-page news. Same thing with Milosovic...Pohl Pot...Chairman Mao...Adolph Hitler...Pinochet...Hirohito...Franco...etc., etc., etc...

None of the above were the US taxpayers burden, either. The differences are all a degree of how much the public cares. Trouble is, the public is very superficial and selfish, and will act accordingly when their pockets are 'threatened' via media 'leaks'.

So people were apathetic until told not to be or when the information on those dictators was released?

well, I now understand that al-Maliki Does have to live there, and there
has to be someone to 'try' to keep some resemblance of some kind of 'unity'.
More so than even in this country.
The more insecurity, the less likely that will Ever be realized.

Gen Pertaeus was originally given until Sept.
1-1/2 months from now.
In the scheme of the total war. I personally don't think that is unreasonable.

By all means, if there isn't some kind of Major showing by the Iraqi gov. by then,
They deserve our withdrawal, .... at least in part, a big part.

CAMP PENDLETON, California (AP) -- A corporal testifying in a court-martial said Marines in his unit began routinely beating Iraqis after officers ordered them to "crank up the violence level."

"We were told to crank up the violence level," said Lopezromo, testifying for the defense.

When a juror asked for further explanation, Lopezromo said: "We beat people, sir."

Within weeks of allegedly being scolded, seven Marines and a Navy corpsman went out late one night to find and kill a suspected insurgent in the village of Hamdaniya near the Abu Ghraib prison. The Marines and corpsman were from 2nd Platoon, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment.

Lopezromo said the suspected insurgent was known to his neighbors as the "prince of jihad," and had been arrested several times and later released by the Iraqi legal system.

Unable to find him, the Marines and corpsman dragged another man from his house, fatally shot him, and then planted an AK-47 assault rifle near the body to make it appear he had been killed in a shootout, according to court testimony.

Four Marines and the corpsman, initially charged with murder in the April 2006 killing, have pleaded guilty to reduced charges and been given jail sentences ranging from 10 months to eight years. Thomas, 25, from St. Louis, Missouri, pleaded guilty but withdrew his plea and is the first defendant to go to court-martial.

Lopezromo, who was not part of the squad on its late-night mission, said he saw nothing wrong with what Thomas did.

"I don't see it as an execution, sir," he told the judge. "I see it as killing the enemy."

He said Marines consider all Iraqi men part of the insurgency.

Lopezromo and two other Marines were charged in August with assaulting an Iraqi two weeks before the killing that led to charges against Thomas and the others. Charges against all three were later dropped.

Thomas' attorneys have said he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury from his combat duty in Falluja in 2004. They have argued that Thomas believed he was following a lawful order to get tougher with suspected insurgents.

Prosecution witnesses testified that Thomas shot the 52-year-old man at point-blank range after he had already been shot by other Marines and was lying on the ground.

Lopezromo said a procedure called "dead-checking" was routine. If Marines entered a house where a man was wounded, instead of checking to see whether he needed medical aid, they shot him to make sure he was dead, he testified.

"If somebody is worth shooting once, they're worth shooting twice," he said.

The jury is composed of three officers and six enlisted personnel, all of whom have served in Iraq. The trial was set to resume Monday.

It's a holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll do what you're told
Well you'll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

i doubt it's that simple.

media leaks don't spend tax dollars. twits in office do. and don't tell me the current twit pays much attention - or has ever paid much attention - to what "the people" want as allegedly articulated through or set off by the media. he does what HE wants, and what his chummy boys tell him to do. clinton rode the polls. bush couldn't give a shit. he's always trying to convince US. and he has convinced the left side of the bell curve.

lots of wars have a point. this one doesn't. i'd rather the money be spent on something worthwhile.

hey winky who's the teener you're using as your avatar?
