Lying pervert!

Zach (age 11) has been sneaking up again at night playing on the puter. Looking at MMORPG sites and *gasp* pron!!! I left it for a couple weeks to figure out the pattern, and today I said something.

He steadfastly lied about it today, so I showed him my looking at the History card right in front of his face. He was floored. And grounded from the computer and pretty much everything else for lying for an indeterminate period.

But now I'm sure he's gonna go ask his friends how to get around all my little sneaky tactics to keep him off/monitored, and as time goes on and he's allowed back on it or manages to sneak on, he'll be back on to his own tricks.

Password the guest account, password the screensaver, I'm about to do all that. My question is, what else can I do? I gotta sleep sometimes. Say he manages to get on at times unsupervised and figures out he can delete selected items out of the history...how can I check that? Is there another way? Would I have to go so far as a keystroke logger?

Password on the BIOS too.

About Zach lying about it, you must understand that he might be ashamed with the theme of sexuality, specially with you. You can not do nothing to stop him from watching what he wants, ultimately he could join with some friends and have a little cinema. Better to be open about it and remove the erroneous notions he might learn from porn, i think he needs to talk with a man.

Too cute for words
My son swore he'd never masturbated until he was 25 of so Finally he grew up enough to admit it). I mean, I found the Playboys and such, the dried towels, etc... I just told him what to do about hiding it from his mom better and let it go. Mom, he thinks that you don't know he's wacking off to that stuff. Please don't tell him. Like uUis says, it's a guy thing. Re the computer, password on the BIOS is a good idea.

Just shut it down and pull the power cord out and take it into your bedroom at night. Its the equivalent of yanking the coil wire on a car.

That's too much work, unc, and I sleep too heavily for it to work :eyemouth:

What a twerp. I didn't call him on the pron specifically, just the being up from 1:30 - 4:30 am on the puter. On a school night to boot! The little shit.

He fell asleep at 5 today, I made him get up to eat dinner. He's back asleep now. The computer will be locked tight tonight, as will the cable boxes.

If you have a firewall such as Zonealarm can't you just password protect the internet.I know with NIS I can and I've tried to get around it and can't.Maybe something like putting 127.0.0.0 (or what ever it is) into your hosts file would keep the Internet from working, since it would keep windows from seeing it. .You might try a bootable cd that would display "get the fuck to bed" . :evilcool:

if you're using IE you can use the group policy editor to prevent him from editing the history, or any settings for that matter. he'll have an awfully tough time figuring that one out too.

start>run>gpedit.msc

User Configuration >
Administrative Templates >
Windows Components >
Internet Explorer >
Disable Changing History Settings

if specific sites are a problem too, you can make that site name unresolvable.

edit /windows/system32/drivers/config/hosts (i think that's the right path)
add a line in the following format and the site name will no longer resolve properly on that machine;
0.0.0.0 ifuktj00mammy.com
0.0.0.0 www.ifuktj00mammy.com

that's not a very elegant solution, there are ways to get around it, but it may be enough. otherwise, if you have broadband and you're using a router, it may have website blocking abilities built in. there's a plethora of ways to keep the kids from doing things you don't want them to do on the computer, none of them perfect.

maybe i should register the domain and start my own pr0n site.

/me is now taking applications for female models

as far as the loopback address AB, i'm not exactly sure what you're asking. if you want to keep windows from using a NIC, i would think the best thing to do would be disable the device in the device manager, remove the physical card, or disable the NIC in BIOS (for builtin NICs). what the hosts file does is allow you to specifically map a particular hostname to an IP address. so if i had trouble resolving www.otcentral.com i could add the following line to the hosts file:
64.235.243.33 www.otcentral.com
windows (and *nix, because that's where M$ stole the concept from) look at the host file before they query a DNS server to try and resolve a hostname, so routing hostname.com to an unroutable address (i.e. 0.0.0.0, 127.0.0.1, 1.1.1.1, etc.) will effectively keep windows from trying to learn the correct address to hostname.com

Okay I see, nevermind then,it did seem like a rather too simple solution.

I did that to a coworker who found out my screen name and a message board I post to (not this one). He registered and starting posting inappropriate threads. I told him that the admin of the site would ban him, and he didn't believe me. So I made a host file entry to redirect him to www.disney.com everytime he tried to visit the message board. :)

Leslie, good for you. My old boss has a setting on his daughter's pc somewhere that after 11pm, it reboots itself every minute. I'll find out how he did it. The group policies is a great place to start.

Why would he need to be surfing when Les is a sound sleeper though. :brow:

 I've been known to wake 'sound sleepers' going in...I just figured it would be best to err on the side of politeness...

Thanks for the suggestions (except for the giving him ideas about the sleeping thing :eek6: ), all, I'll work on it tonight and see how it goes.

If I can't get back on the net you all know where I went :lloyd:

Just put your back against the wall, cross your legs, and put your hand over your mouth, and you'll sleep just fine.
