Opinions of females in a "male business"

Sorry, Luis, but I can't imagine this line of questioning is going to get you anywhere with most women. But good luck with that working again! :smoke2;

I'm serious, I've done that, there's a difference between liking someone and recognizing her beauty, and it isn't like you will be flirting either or keep looking at her with that horny expression. Just make your gf/wife understand that you are not going to turn the view because a woman happens to be on the way, and that she should not feel threatened by her prescence, you love her and no matter how beautiful a woman is that won't change. And there's little you can do about the beauty of other women, it isn't your fault.

It has worked everytime for me, I dislike having stupid jealousy/low self-esteem arguments.

I see Prof's point, I've lived it.

If your not going to just find what you came for,

if you're after service\advice get the oldster.

Last year I had my first root canal. I went to a new dentist

on the recommendation of one of my Wife's Rich friends.

Seems I got the junior member of the practices' staff. This Guy looked 28 (was prolly early thirties I hope). He basically told me what I already knew and scheduled me with another dentist in a practice a few miles away. (He said "we always send our root canals to this guy").

Now I've heard all the root canal jokes and this being my first I steeled myself for the exciting experience.

Well wouldn't you know this guy was an 'oldhand' looked to be in his 50's. Ya know how you can recognize true skill and expertise when you see it? This guy was a true master!

The experience while not as fun as sex on a hot summer afternoon wasn't really that bad because this guy was the best tooth plumber in town.

Of course I asked him where else other than going back to junior I should go to get the crown put on, he said "tell my secretary you want to have this done by 'Don' ".

She nearly winked when I told her that, made a quick phone call and handed me an appointment card. Of course when I met 'Don' he was an old codger too.

Expert service, at a premium price.

Hey It's great because I'm rapidly approaching the old codger status myself. So it's not all bad. I have seen it countless times again and again where my advice will be given greater weigh because I'm a middle-aged white male,

the perennial authority figger in this world. Heh heh heh.

Oh and GF that thread link points out what is wrong with society today and leads to:
I can raise these kids all by myself
By today’s standards I am a chauvinist
because chivalry has been made into chauvinismby the ugly chicks in the NOW gang.Any bitch that gets pissed when an offer of help is made can piss up a rope!

From then on she’ll get treated like the dude in the group

no one likes.

I haven't noticed the sexism at my RadioShack. Usually, whoever is the first person to greet the customer is the one to help that customer. I've never seen anyone tell any of the girls they want to talk to a guy instead. However, there have been quite a few times where the girls have asked me questions about all kinds of stuff.

Or, you can assume everybody is an idiot...that way you're never disappointed. :D
And, very occasionally, you're pleasantly surprised. :D

I used to work in the auto parts business, and it happened there all the time. Still happens at some of our tire stores here.

A older male friend and I checked out computer schools together a couple of years back. While talking to a placement guy from one of the major ones on 42nd Street, I noticed he would only address my male friend, despite the fact that I was interested in attending as well. Wouldn't even look at me. I walked out.

If the female clerk is an attractive woman with the correct ammount of makeup on, I would probably go to one of the guys for help.

If the female clerk is wearing sensible clothes, little to no makeup and her hair pulled back into a sensible ponytail, possibly died a dark color, possibly with multiple piercings in one or both ears, I'll go to the female.

you only speak to lesbians or NAGs?

Ha, no. Geek girls. I'm not going to ask some sorority girl to help me find a crimp tool or something. She might send me to Target or Penny's.

Addressing the first post:
Yeah, sadly, I think I might assume that, depending on the level of help I need. But I find that women have to do more to prove to me that they know what they're doing in many areas. I noticed even last time I went to set up a bank account, it was a woman helping me and I'm a little like..."Geeeh, so you're not gonna mess this up..right?" Not aloud, of course, silly. But that wore off quickly.

It also seems like every time I see a well written, intelligent article or post by a female, I'm impressed. Or just anything. I've so come to expect, and assume, everything "notable" to be done by men. Maybe it's the overwhelming amount of incompetant women I've encountered in my life, or just groundless stereotypes I've come to accept. It can work the other way as well I suppse; I'd prefer a woman to give me a manicure or clean my house...or something, meh.

The problem with this thread is that you automatically assume, (or set the tendency to assume) ...by stating in your own title, that the electronics business is a "male business"...

then go on by asking a question of what questionably feminist slanted nature, to a neanderthonlic, chauvinistic group of boneheads.

As they say, stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

Stupid. What did you expect?

I know what you mean and the main response to that is obviously not surprising. Thats because a lot of boneheads dominate this board, ESPECIALLY the RW and so the result is anythin but. Its a virtually-instituted state of far-right opinions with little or no tolerance for any alternative thought. Pity that huh? oh well...

If you intended the assumption that it is an industry dominated by men, then you should have put, 'male' dominated business.

But then then, thinking about it - to make you probably shouldn't have put 'male' in the title at all. stupid.

By now it should be clear that that the stereotypical assumption that men naturally know more than women as far as anything electronic is concerned is passe. Technology is a part of all of our lives and that sort of thing is accessable to everyone who wants to learn about it and get into it as much as brain surgery or anthropology, cooking or changing nappies. duh.

as long as you have the means, of course.

It is true that the only reason why a female (hired with the right foreknowledge in the first place as you would any employee) might know less or women as a whole are disproportionate in the industry is precisely because of the fact that the attitude that it is a "male business" in the first place. But then, if she is working there in the same position as the male then she is just as qualified as the male for the job and there is no reason why she shouldn't be treated in the same way. If a male was the head of that department or a specialist or more knowledgable about something then of course they might be the better option - but either way, so would a female if she were in the same position.

BTW as far as grammar is concerned, who really gives a damn - its the thought that is put into your writing that matters more than your attention to appeasing the tightarses that slam you down for every inaccuracy and typo.
As far as that is concerned, keep the ideas up - and don't let these anal grammar-nazi-repressive-wannabe-sadistic-highschool-english-teachers put you off posting... :brush: ;)
