there's always private school and uniforms. this way they can't ask for designer clothing all the time.

Be a good friend...pass your used and no longer fitting kids clothes onto other parents with younger kids. Kids outgrow their clothes long before they destroy them. They'll reciprocate.

Saved me more cash than I could possibly calculate.

Yep! We do that with several neighbors. Our kid is in the middle of the group, age-wise.

That, and consignment sales. I shudder to think of the bill if we didn't go to those. Just wash the living hell out of it before you dress your kid in it.

Not to mention that bastion of summertime in the South - the good ol' American yard sale. The 12.68 year old gets a good deal of her threads from them, as well as selected hand-me-downs from an older cousin and what we and the grands pick up on clearance racks. Thankfully, she has yet to contract the ACTCF (All Consuming Teenage Clothing Fetish) to any significant degree, and there's still enough tomboy left in her to not want to be "prissy". Fact is, she'd prefer Dixie Outfitters t-shirts over most other stuff, and her school still allows them. Her favorite slouch pants are from there...gray sweats with "Rebeliscious" across da booty. Now she wants some tshirts with the flag on it. I'm so proud of her...

Aah...garage sales :) Great place to pick up toys, books, LPs and the occasional 'do you know what it is? I don't know what it is either but it's only .25cents' items :)

Church Bazaars!! Gotta love'em!

Gotta be careful when getting used clothes from anywhere other than people you know...around here there was a church that ran a clothing drive and one kid ended up with a winter coats with RAZORBLADES sewn into the seams! The kid was screaming when the mother tried to put him in the car seat and he wouldn't stop so she took him out and took the coat off cause she couldn't think of any other culprit and it was the first time he was wearing it (she assumed maybe some sort of allergy to the material)...turns out the blades were cutting him :blank:

A thriftstore, I take it, is some place where you buy clothes that other people no longer want?

Never have bought any clothes from such a place...I am just a little freaked out by the idea.

(Love the boots tonksy!)

Clothes, among other items. The Salvation Army thrift store around the corner from my place in Clovis had stereo equipment, TVs, couches, records, etc. I bought a T-shirt from there that says, "I spent my birthday at Table Mountain Casino." I wore it to class one day and some girl asked me how my party was up there. I told her I've never been to that casino; I bought the shirt at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for a buck.

Personally, I would never buy underwear from there, but shirts, pants, jackets, etc. are fair game. Just make sure to wash them before wearing them.
