2004 RNC

Last night was interesting. Laura Bush did a nice job.

Ahhhnold would have had a barnburner of a speech if he'd just left out the "girlie men" line. It was hokey, gratiutous, and reminiscent of "Reporting for duty". Other than that, it was a helluva good speech. His itemization of what makes one a republican was nice work.

However, if they couldn't come up with better material for them to regurgitate, they should have kept the twins cloistered somewhere. Talk about the wheels falling off. At least it was mercifully shrt.

Missed lat nights outing in lieu of PAssion of the Christ. Not tonight though...Dick Cheney for President.

Reality check.

They're politicians. They were before, are now, and will be after. Beliving anything they say is naive at best. They're only speeches.

He put that in there because of the trouble he got in a month or two ago here in California, while our budget was still in negotiations, for referring to those who were stalling the process for petty crap as "economic girlie men." It was a "fuck the PC crowd" line.

Yeah, I know why he did it. He just didn't need to. It cheapened it a bit, IMO.

It was actually kind of funny when he did it. I just hope he doesnt over do it anymore.

My fellow immigrants, my fellow Americans, how do you know if you are a Republican? I'll tell you how.

If you believe that government should be accountable to the people, not the people to the government...then you are a Republican! If you believe a person should be treated as an individual, not as a member of an interest group... then you are a Republican! If you believe your family knows how to spend your money better than the government does... then you are a Republican! If you believe our educational system should be held accountable for the progress of our children ... then you are a Republican! If you believe this country, not the United Nations, is the best hope of democracy in the world ... then you are a Republican! And, ladies and gentlemen ...if you believe we must be fierce and relentless and terminate terrorism ... then you are a Republican!

There is another way you can tell you're a Republican. You have faith in free enterprise, faith in the resourcefulness of the American people ... and faith in the U.S. economy. To those critics who are so pessimistic about our economy, I say: "Don't be economic girlie men!"

A dying breed, especially in politics. A man unafraid to challenge the status quo of his party. A man willing to say what he believes & believes what he says.

oh man! did you see him with Chris Matthews in the after action interview on MSNBC , whoo boy howdy did Zell lay into the boy.

There's going to be few soundbites there too. It was too funny.

C-Span...PMSNBC & Chris Mathews pissed me off with their editorials camoflaged as news.

I usually stick with Fox, but for big news I have pre-programed news cycle on the remote.

Zell had Chris at a loss-for-words. Zell ~'wished they were in the same room' so Zell could 'get in his face' :rolf2: and went on to say he ~'wished it was different day so he could Challenge him to a duel'

As the situation decompinsated you could see that the Producers had taken over and were coaching Chris on exactly what to say to de-escalate the situation.

It was the every bit as good as his speech.

Also a man close to retirement, who no longer has to worry about dealing with the party machine. Think of it as a death-bed statement.

This isn't the first time he's done this, is it? Seems he has a penchant for speaking his mind, party bedamned.

MSN Video of Zell

During a contentious interview on MSNBC’s ‘Hardball,’ Zell Miller told host Chris Matthews, ‘I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel.’

Fresh from addressing the Republican National Convention, Sen. Zell Miller of Georgia appeared as a guest on the cable news program “Hardball” and was questioned by host Chris Matthews about the fairness of his attack on John Kerry.

Matthews was on an outdoor set a few blocks from New York’s Madison Square Garden, the site of Miller’s keynote speech. Matthews asked Miller whether his remarks mischaracterized Kerry’s voting record. Miller said they hadn’t.

MSNBC Video: Matthews and Miller square off.

Miller also challenged Matthews’ interviewing style, and accused him of “browbeating” a female guest during a recent program. The senator suggested that he was getting similar treatment, and added, “I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel.”

:rofl3:
