$400 per gallon

Mink ... you do understand that the only reason foreign countries buy US treasuries is to have US dollars on hand to buy stuff on the int'l market, doncha? You do also understand that your present gov't has added trillions of additional US treasuries to that int'l market this year. If those int'l countries arrange it so that they don't need those US greenbacks for deals between themselves .... your US buck isn't even worth it's weight in toilet paper. Need I remind you that India and China together are over a third of the world population, and both are heavily industrialized. Add to that the Russian natural resources and you're S.O.L.

Huh Wha?

The Rooskies have always had trouble getting dollars (a hard currency)
All the article sez is that India and Russia want to use rubles to exchange goods.
If either wants to trade with anyone else, they need dollars.

This means nothing to the standing of the dollar.

um, yeah prof, i know the stuffs you speak of, but this is more of a "drop in the bucket" than a "crushing blow."

maybe i had too many econ courses at university and not enough drama courses?

An industrialized country with a population over a billion, and a country a third again as large as the second biggest with vast tracts of untapped natural resources including oil, uranium, timber .....

Call in a drop if you like, but when the bucket is already overfull, ....

"New York, June 19 (DPA) US stocks suffered significant declines Wednesday, after the second-largest US package company FedEx reported a loss and a financial analyst warned of more credit crisis writedowns. FedEx reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $241 million."

Holy shit, that must mean private business doesn't work. Right?

Crap, Roadway Express too?

As long as the US government stays out of FexEx, they'll live or die, as it's meant to be.

My company is holding a large amount of liquid assets, eagerly anticipating the failure or (union) YRC (Yellow, Roadway, Holland)...we're ready to buy & hire IMMEDIATELY.

Since when is the EU a nation? Their GDP is now combined? Do the citizens of the participating natiosn kn ow that?

It’s just that separately they are quite meaningless
Ya’ Know like:
14 Canada 1,303,234
or
49 Denmark 204,060

Quite. That's why I'm wondering.

Will they soon be the United Socialist States of Europe?

But it's all worth it becuz 'merica is BOSS!

:usa:

So don't tread on us or even disagree with us because we'll bitch slap you with a never ending "police action" where everyone loses! Just knuckle under and follow the wishes of your overlords and your betters!

:usa:

The rest of the moronic world is just too fucking pathetic to give us any of the gratitude we are owed! We are superior in every way and we need to start as many wars as it takes to keep it that way!

That's the meaning of patriotism isn't it?

Just an FYI I spent 7th and 8th grade in a very fine and reputable Catholic school, did everything before in public school and 9th and 10th as well before I dropped out and yet I still managed to get into the 90th to 99th percentile in just about every standardized test they could throw at me, save for mathematics and that mostly only because I am not fast with figures and they are timed tests. On an IQ test I tested around 150, but obviously I am not as smart as you Gonz, or I'd share your world view right? I am sure I pale in comparison to your vast wealth of knowledge. Obviously because politics are all about intelligence right? I just didn't have what it takes to get into a fine college.... *sniff*

I may have made a lot of intimations about the kind of person I see you as in the past, based on your posts which is about all we have here to go on, but I don't believe I have ever insulted your intelligence. I don't think I have ever actually said that anyone here is intellectually challenged. If I used the word idiot or stupid, whether you took it to mean more or not I am quite sure it was only in reference to how I feel about your ideas and politics.

Oh well the RW is going back in biz full force into the same old same old. Welcome back hatred and vitriol! Nice job helping lead the charge there Gonz!

Had we just built a few schools and supported the Afghans back then we would not be in this mess now. The teenagers growing up are being told that the Taliban fought off the Soviets without help and that the US has always been the enemy of Afghanistan. What a bunch of shit.

Hmm...not sure whether you're agreeing with me, or being scarcastic, but the promises made that were not kept are considered the height of rudeness to most of the Islamic people I've talked to. Still...a few roads, a few schools, and a few hospitals are a heck of a lot cheaper, in the long run, than a military intervention...

Donkey, actually.
a) it's a smoother ride
b) a donkey has no withers and the back is flat, it's like riding in a lazy boy chair ... very comfy
c) they take rocky terrain better than a horse
d) they require less maintenance than a horse
e) they come in larger sizes than you think (see American Mammoth Donkey)

These are not mules. Mules are a hybrid cross between a donkey jack and a horse mare.

Now how fast can a donkey travel? How many miles in a day? How much equipment can you load on one? How many does it take to transport a mortar team/howitzer team plus all their equipment needed for a 2 hour battle? Thats why I said horses...they were also used in WW2 until surpassed in hauling capability by mechanized infantry...
