A new obsession...

I went to Trader Joe's. :D

And came home with Phalaenopsis Brother Lancer:

PHAL-Brother-Lancer.jpg

They were only $11.00!! Most of them weren't in great condition or were colors I didn't want. This one is perfect though, and the flowers are smaller than the other one.

My name is Trish, and I'm an Orchid-holic.

They had some orchids in the grocery store here for $39.99cdn, plain purply ones, they were beautiful :)

So you went to Trader Joes, Good move. You're still going to go to the Expo too though, aren't you?

Cory. ;)

I love that name. No shit, when I was younger and day dreamed of a perfect boy asking me out, his name was always Cory. :)

Yes, I'm still goin to the expo, I might even be meeting someone from the gardening message board there who lives in Manhattan. I'll probably go the first weekend since their stock is more likely to go that first weekend. Hopefully the weather will hold up.

Orchids always remind me of The Big Sleep...

General Sternwood: Do you like orchids?
Philip Marlowe: Not particularly.
General Sternwood: Ugh. Nasty things. Their flesh is too much like the flesh of men, and their perfume has the rotten sweetness of corruption.

I forgot to smell my new orchid to see if it does have a scent, thanks for reminding me Ards. The first one doesn't smell really.

They have Trader Joes in NY??? I thought they were a west coast phenomena.

It's purty and affordable :D

There's one by my house and one by work, it's pretty convenient. There are 6 on Long Island alone, and two in upstate NY.

Every time I go in there, it's packed. They have a great selection of funky stuff. Specialty stores are popular around here.

Hmm ... the pressure of a name .... :D

Lemme go have my coffee and see what kind of name I get inspired with :D ... or did nalani name your baby yet?

not yet! How about something like little yellow? Because it's a mini-phal. It's not as big as the other one.

I was going to go to the Orchid show this weekend but not it looks like it's going to snow. It's normally a bitch to drive into the Bronx but I don't want to do that if there's going to be inclement weather and I can't walk around the grounds. So this is it for the orchids till it gets better.

Thanks again for your help. :)

yellow, huh? here's a few suggestions :D

these are all different shades of yellow

mele - yellow
lena - yellow, yellowish
malena - yellow
pualena - yellow color, to appear yellow, as said of dawn or muddy water
kamalena - yellow, yellow-hued
halena - yellowish, pale yellow
pia - pale yellow
hepia - pale yellow, like the ilima flower
nau - pale yellow, as the gardenia
pala luhiehu - golden yellow, a beautiful yellow
pala ehu - reddish-yellow

oooh I likey!! I think pualena is the coolest one... I think there's a problem with the plant though. It's in a really tiny pot which is normally ok as long as you water it enough. Since it needed to be watered more frequently than the other and Rusty didn't notice while I was at my friend's house, it dried out. Three tiny new buds fell off and now all the rest of the buds bloomed at the same time. I think it's called a 'bud blast' and that's not good. It's salvageable but after these flowers go, I might not have more for a while.

Hey Greenie, yer plant-passionate post made me think of the movie, "Dennis the Menace", where Mr. Wilson had a special Orchid or other, that took a lifetime to mature an' only bloomed once..............can't think of its name or whether it was evenreal............?

My momma grows little beauties of many kinds in her gardens back home on the farm. (all legal, ofcourse) *smile*

Good luck with yer new baby!:)
