Administration Lied Hundreds of Times About Iraq

Preparing by lying 935 times.

For a statement to be a "lie" there needs to be a deliberate intent to deceive. And ultimately some kind of benefit to the "liar." Why would the Bush administration want to purposely dupe the American public, if not the entire world, about the threat that Iraq posed? What is the payoff?

Soros trots out a list of "falsehoods" http://www.publicintegrity.org/WarC...teTo=11/03/2007&SearchTerms_OrderBy=Record_Id
but does not even provide comment on the context.

Soros is a fool with an agenda against this country and should be deported.

Is it a "lie" if it was commonly thought to be true by nearly every US senator, congressman, and every head of state in the world?

"The hard fact is that so long as Saddam remains in power, he threatens the well-being of his people, the peace of his region, the security of the world.

The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people."

"It is the duty of any president, in the final analysis, to defend this nation and dispel the security threat. Saddam Hussein has brought military action upon himself by refusing for 12 years to comply with the mandates of the United Nations. The brave and capable men and women of our armed forces and those who are with us will quickly, I know, remove him once and for all as a threat to his neighbors, to the world, and to his own people, and I support their doing so."

The payoff is he gets to start a war with Iraq like he wanted to. Where have you been?

Soros is a fool with an agenda against this country and should be deported.

Actually Bush is a fool with an agenda against this country that should be deported.

That's what lies doo they decieve people. However there were certainly plenty of people and countries that didn't fall for it and were against the war weren't there?

hey let's just go ahead and blame the balfour letter.

If you like. But in those days, there wasn't much of a population claiming that territory for a 'homeland'. It wasn't until the end of WWI that it started to become an issue. The factories being built there by the Jews from Europe had to be manned, and the area flooded with Arabs. There will be, of course, some arguments against that statement, but thats where it starts...

But why would he want to start a war with Iraq?

Really? Me, too.

Piro said Saddam also said that he wanted to keep up the illusion that he had the program in part because he thought it would deter a likely Iranian invasion.

“For him, it was critical that he was seen as still the strong, defiant Saddam. He thought that (faking having the weapons) would prevent the Iranians from reinvading Iraq,” Piro told Scott Pelley of “60 Minutes.”

Piro added that Saddam had the intention of restarting an Iraqi weapons program at the time, and had engineers available for chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

So...in other words...Saddam lied, and we fell for it. Now you anti-war folks can start saying something else stupid about the President...

The DSM: Fake but Accurate. Documents get created after the fact to support preconceived notions about what happened in the past.

Typed copies. Destroyed originals. Unnamed sources. The copies can't be authenticated. Were there ever any "originals?"

Did "C" ever speculate

Why

President Bush felt it was necessary to remove Saddam?

Accusations have been flying that he "lied" about the threat level to get us into war---but what was his

Motivation/Reason/Justification/Basis/Purpose

for "lying?"

Good question. There's a few theories. I'd say you'd have to ask him but your not going to get a real answer obviously. What we do know is the reasons given at the time were bogus.

The theory is that President Bush knew unequivocally that the WMDs in Iraq were nonexistant--that he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt there was not even a crumb of sarin that could be had anywhere in that country---yet for some reason he lied to create support for war. Why?

There has to be a reason.

Yes, there does have to be a reason. However Bush or his inner circle aren't exactly going to be forthright with that reason.

PNAC had been itching for a war with Iraq for years. The aftermath of 9/11 had everyone scared which gave the administration an opening to tie the invasion of Iraq to the terrorist attacks through the lies they repeated over and over about Al Qaeda.

It worked. They lied and a large scary amount of Americans and even US soldiers fell for it and believed that Hussien was behind the attacks.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A32862-2003Sep5?language=printer

This allowed them to focus most of the military's efforts in Iraq instead of going after Bin Laden or fighting real threats.

So who did this profit? Well there's the obvious usual suspects like Halliburton and other companies with no bid contracts. Then there's the billions of dollars that has just "gone missing" right?

Of course it'd be silly not to notice the oil fields Iraq has. Or the fact that Exxon and other oil companies are making record profits right now.

So hey PNAC got what they wanted, lots of people got rich and yet it only cost the tax payers a trillion dollars, millions of displaced Iraqis, countless dead or maimed, and a screwed up economy. Oh, can't forget all while increasing the threat of terrorism.

That should be something anyone can get behind.

I like what Ron Paul wrote on the subject.

man everytime I see this thread, I think....
Who's so board that they 'count' this kinda shit from a politician..

If you think you might have Bush Derangement Syndrome, or BDS, just take this simple self-administered test:

1. Do you interject non sequitors about President Bush, Vice President Cheney or Karl Rove into ordinary conversations without warning?

2. Is the Kerry-Edwards sticker still affixed to your car?

3. Did you replace a faded Kerry-Edwards sticker or an Al Gore/2000 sticker with a new one?

4. Did you vote twice in the 2004 election, once from your primary residence and once from your country home?

5. In the past 60 days, have you engaged in one or more heated arguments about the War against Islamist terror?
a. Once (1 point)
b. Twice (2 points)
c. Three times (3 points)
d. More than three times (5 points)

6. Have you found yourself yelling at members of the Bush administration when they appear on your television?

7. Have you found yourself yelling at Chris Matthews, Tim Russert, George Stephanopoulos, Bob Schieffer or other network anchors for not being tough enough on Bush?

8. Have you marched with Cindy Sheehan or with Code Pink?

9. Did you send a political donation to Paul Hackett in his campaign for a special election to the U.S. House, even though you don't live in Ohio?

10. Have you demonstrated your "support for the troops" by pushing for the Murtha Amendment, which would have authorized an immediate withdrawl from Iraq?

11. Do you secretly welcome hearing bad news from Iraq because you assume it will hurt President Bush's standing in opinion polls?

12. Are you disappointed there have not been any further terrorist attacks since 9/11?

13. Do you still think the discredited memos typed on Microsoft Word broadcast by CBS's "60 Minutes" were legitimate historical documents from 1972 proving George W. Bush shirked his duty in the Texas Air National Guard?

14. Do you believe that Karl Rove actually produced and leaked these documents to discredit Dan Rather?

15. Do you obsessively try to figure out how a "war for oil" has resulted in much higher oil and gasoline prices?

16. Do you support Harry Belafonte's judgement, stated at an anti-American rally in dictator Hugo Chavez's Venezuela, that George W. Bush is a bigger terrorist than Osama Bin Laden ("if Bin Laden actually did that which he is accused of doing")?

17. Do you, like the New York Times editorial page, frequently try to reconcile the fact that the crime rate has gone down at the same time the prison population has increased?

18. Does President Bush's religiosity drive you bonkers?

19. Do you object to President Bush's support of tuition tax credits and vouchers so that poor families can send their children to private schools? Give yourself 2 points if you believe this AND send your own kids to private schools.

20. Do you find that you are avoiding friends who do not share your vitriolic disdain for President Bush?

21. In your computer dating profile do you feature your loathing for Bush and the Republican Party and warn that you will not date Republicans or Bush supporters?

22. Are you convinced that Scooter Libby outed Valery Plame on orders from Dick Cheney and Karl Rove?

23. Do you support the immediate impeachment of President Bush?

24. Do you think that the United Nations should supervise future U.S. elections?

25. Do you wonder how it is possible for the U.S. economy to grow so strongly in the past 3 years while Bush has cut income and business taxes?

26. When you are planning a vacation, do you avoid going to red states?

27. Did you make jokes about Dick Cheney's quail-shooting incident, such as saying that it was really a warning to Scooter Libby or that Bush should have been in his friend Harry's place?

28. Are you still trying to figure out how Karl Rove and Mr. Diebold rigged the election in Ohio, giving Bush the victory in that crucial state by 119,000 votes?

Now to score yourself, just award one point for each "yes" answer. Make sure you correctly calibrate your response to the sliding scale responses for questions 5 and 19.

Here's how you rate on the Bush Derangement Syndrome scale:

0-5 points Pretty normal; just another mildly partisan Democrat
6-10 points In the orange zone; ask a friend to monitor your outbursts
11-15 points Could be trouble; might want to consider voluntarily not watching TV
16-20 points Go immediately to your psychiatric practioner
21-34 points You have full-bore BDS; check in NOW to St. Elizabeth's Hospital

With prompt treatment BDS can be abated, though full cures are rare. Early detection and treatment are vital to recovering your faculties.

Any theories as to why Congress authorized military force?
