This lady deserves a medal...

An 80-year-old Burnaby woman, angered by a con-man's attempt to grab her purse, chased the man away from her front door and gave him a kick in the butt on his way down the stairs.

The con-man first showed up at the woman's door in the 300 block of Ellesmere on Tuesday evening, said Cpl. Pierre Lemaitre in a press release.

He asked her for money, claiming his car had been towed and was being held in an impound lot. She gave him $40 and the man promised to repay her the next day.
He returned to the house at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. But instead of repaying her kindness from the previous day, he claimed further financial trouble and asked for more money.

The woman explained she had not been to the bank and said she only had change left.

"At this point the kind hearted soul fetched her purse and showed the male that she had no further bills to give, however managed to give the male $3 in change," Lemaitre wrote.

The ungrateful con man then attempted to grab the remaining bit of change from the bottom of her purse.

"The good woman was not impressed, and the 80 year old grabbed the stranger, pushed him out the door and chased him. She chased the stranger down the stairs and managed to kick him squarely in the butt while he was fleeing down the stairs," Lemaitre said.

The woman later told police that although she was "older" she could manage on her own and added, "'I just hoped he would trip after I kicked him in the rear.'"

Police described the man as a white male, between 40 and 50 years old, five feet, five inches tall and skinny, possibly less than 110 pounds.
