Bring our firefighters home

These fires are dangerous. You know, going in and putting these fires out while you're evacuating -- they've evacuated 900,000 people and are on the way to evacuating a million. It's the largest evacuation in the history of the state of California.

The people fighting these fires are in grave, grave danger. It is unsafe. I think it's time to bring the firefighters home. I think it's time to bring the firefighters out of there. It's just too dangerous.

They're in there on a false premise anyway, that they can put out the fire. We can't win against the fire, folks, just like we can't win in Iraq. Admit we can't beat the fire, and get these brave firefighters out of there and get our brave National Guard troops that are on the job out of there. Get the Marines from Camp Pendleton that were out there fighting. Get 'em out of there because we can't win this! We're not going to beat this fire. We have to let it burn itself out. It's just going to be back next year, anyway. We're never going to get rid of it. The fire is just going to come back. It's just a shame. Putting so many brave people at risk there, fighting a fire that we can't win.

Rush having fun

Actually we should bring our National Guard home from Iraq to help with the fire situation.

Sure, we'd be much better served having them help out in national emergencies than invading non-threatening foreign countries.

Wanna bet most NG feel safer with an M16 in Fallujah than would standing in front of a 60' wall of flame fanned by 60MPH winds.

Are you saying that they would have a problem helping out in emergencies in the US or something?

With all these fires year after year I'm surprised that there are any trees left in California.

The fires this week just happen to be in population centers. Combined, they've burned about 472,000 acres in total. Earlier this summer, the Zaca fire in Santa Barbara County burned 244,000 acres or so. But the state is 158,302 square miles, which is 101,313,280 acres. So the fires going on in SoCal now, plus that one in July, total about 716,000 acres. So even with all the other fires in the state this summer, I don't think they total a million acres, which is still less than one percent of the state's total area.
