One of the major differences is America is a melting pot of culture,Canada is more accepting of diversity. The gun thing would also be a major sticking point with most Canadians. Oh ,and don't forget Quebec,you really think the US would let them keep their "Unique society"

Um that is just not true. They would send representatives to the federal government, but all things considered the State of Quebec would have more freedoms since States in the US have all the power except where it is delegated to the federal government. In Canada it is other way around, federal government has all the power except where delegated to the provinces. The federal government will not make rules regarding language and so forth.

Guns shmuns, my neighbor's kid is 6 and runs around with toy guns like you wouldn't believe. In fact, I'd wager a large part of Canada would like to own firearms and wouldn't object to it, including me.
