Canada's little soap opera

It's been quite the season. There's a minority government in power. Then there was a *gasp* scandal. The other side is trying to use that to their advantage, topple the government in a vote this Thursday, and win an election. The seats are split 50/50, with 3 independents pretty much the deciding factors, as obviously the rest of Parliament won't actually do something stupid and vote their consciences or vote what their constituents would want. Today one of the opposition party defected and went to join the in-power party.

What a fucking waste of time and money. Just fucking govern and shut the fuck up!

anyway, here's a brief history of the past little while. I thought it was fairly well done for a news story.

Have I mentioned that there is a Provincial Election here today :alienhuh:

This is why you don't want to have too many fractious political parties. Having only two is worse, IMO, but you can take it too far.

OTOH, as long as they're all involved with this, they can't screw too much with you.

Les, you neglected to mention that the side-swapper was the second place candidate for the party leadership.

and Mr. Magna's wife. I dont' see her ever getting elected to anything. But, yes, I did. I imagine she has her eyes on Martin's spot now, cause he won't last much longer.

Lets see..

Communism blows because its a one party system.

Republic Democracy blows because its a two party system.

Parliamentary Democracy blows because its a 50 party system.

Its either a bloated dog-and-pony show or a dictatorship... pick one ... its doesn't matter. We all lose.

I've been telling you for years, dude : Monarchy. Take someone as a child. Train them up in responsability. And then remind him that he's only ruler as long as he lives.

He gets whacked, and his little brother steps up to plate, with a remarkable clear perspective on the future.

Monarchy is just a variation on a dictatorship wherin the leader had the reigns of power laid at his/her feet instead of taking it.

And, pray tell, what is your democratic republic, if not a parlimentary monarchy in disguise? Tell me you don't have your own princes, taking 4 year turns at being king. Tell me that your "house of Lords" doesn't have more say in who sits the throne than the common Joe. They select the candidates, and you pick from those offered.

Its only that because we're too lazy to walk out of the grocery when all they have is rotten apples. We'd just assume pick up a wormy apple instead of actually breaking a sweat by planting, cultivating, and picking fresh apples.

In a pigs ear! There was no way that she would've gone leader in the Tory party. Too liberal
