Commies, Maoists & now...

Remember kiddies, the free market is nonsense. Our MANUFACTURING CZAR said so.

It is a joke. The market is not free, it's limited and the best way to make money in the 'free market' is to find workarounds to current rules/laws in order to beat the market.

Political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun. Discuss it. Ignore who said it originally and discuss the statement.
"The USA is the most powerful nation on Earth" - where does this power comes from?

It's prolly a damn good thing the USA had a lot 'political power' for WW2.

But then again, there are shit load of places where people hire AK's into the air, do they have power? What about the swiss, their armed, do they have political power too?

I think it more a Darwin thing. The world is dangerous place, it always has been it always will be. there has to be an alpha.

Bish, silly to a fault.

Well excuse me if I don't want a gun barrel pointed upside mah head.
If that is your idea of freedom more power to ya.

Sure...ignore the question, Winkster

Country A wants to exert political power over another country (or even it's own people)
What kind of power does Country A have and which is most powerful?

a) Economic
b) Military
c) Moral - just adding this in...it's not all that powerful.

Internally, you could add Democratic (support of the populace) as well, though that doesn't work externally.

***
Internally, military power would include police.

Internally speaking, military rule (rule at the end of a barrel) by the GVT is what 'freedom to bear arms' is supposed to oppose.
Economic rule by the GVT is what fighting socialism/communism is all about.

Political power - exerted by GVTs.
Firing AKs into the air doesn't show power. Rifles etc are a show, in this case, of an individual's power. Not what we're discussing.
The Swiss have a measure of economic power. They don't have a lot of influence though. Not enough political power.

So its not about having guns?

It's about how many guns you have..or planes, tanks, subs, ships, nuclear bombs, conventional weaponry etc... Military strength in comparison to your 'opponents', as opposed to economic strength.

China, for instance, has a strong economic strength, and although it has a large military, it doesn't have the oil reserves to really use it externally. It can't apply political pressure on other countries based on it's military strength, though it can and does do so based on it's economic strength. A quick look at Africa and South America will give you an idea of how it's applying this economic power/influence over other countries.

So, you're pointing out that the progressive movement in the United States has, by overregulation & tightenign control, weakened the strongest, freeest economy to ever be. It has limited our adventurous free will & can-do attitude. Well, then, I agree with you.

No Reagan and others who deregulated for short term gains gutted our economy, destroyed the middle class, and widened the gap between the rish and the rest of us.

There are more rich today than there were 50 years ago. The middle class is larger, more diverse & richer than 50 years ago.

Why do you have a problem with the rich getting richer?

No 50 years ago we had a middle class could survive on one income, could buy a new car every couple years. Now we have massive layoffs, foreclosures, and unemployment while Wall St. gets richer and CEO pay is through the roof.

This is because we've let corporate interests take over our government awhile back and it's going to take quite a lot to get Goldman Sachs and the like back out of it.
