i am sure that the dna is used to identify bodies, also it is being saved for a database to run dna through to catch criminals, should our tender offspring grow into violent murderers...

Actually...I volunteer for "The Missing Children's Network" here in Montreal, and I highly recommend some identifiers for your kid. You can do a lot of these youself, if you're worried. Fingerprinting's easy...just don't press too hard with the fingers. You don't want to compress the image. May I suggest buying a cheap Video Cassette...for the first years, make a short video (30-45secs) of all four sides of your kid, plus closeups of the face. Push the hair out of the way of the ears. Point out any marks, scars, etc... make sure that there's a measureable item in the picture (Yard-stick). DO it every 6 months for the first 4 years...same tape...after that, every year. Put the works in the fridge and keep it. You can use it to 'age' pictures of lost or kidnapped kids and help the police find them for you.
DNA is good for badly decomposed bodies only, but dental records work best (Your dentist should be able to give you photocopies of your kids xrays)

I don't mind the database thing. I've volunteer for it, even. It might be tough to pull off in Canada though. We're still fighting over the Universal ID card (Drivers/medical/insurance etc..)
In the USA...I can see shots being fired at census takers.

U kidding? In the USA we shoot at Jehovahs witnesses, process servers, vacuum cleaner sales men, visitors, avon ladies, Amway dealers, even the local sheriff if he doesnt have a warrant! 
Of course now days they have all day infomercials, bill boards, spam, and mass mailings.
We are still trying to figure out an effective way to combine our shot guns into anti-advertising devices in this modern age
