Free Speech is a one way street part 3...

I haven't had this problem in my Education yet. Now, I have had some very liberal teachers, and gotten in some pretty good arguments with those teachers, but I don't believe I've ever gotten a bad grade because of my beliefs.

:) yup yup yup

IMO she deserved to fail, she was asked to write an essay about why Bush is a war criminal, she wrote an essay about a different subject.

If you're asked to calculate the sum of two numbers and instead of doing that you divide them, would you bitch if you get a bad note?

What if, in her heart, she didn't feel at all that Bush is a war criminal? Her, unpopular opinion doesn't matter then?

It does matter, but still, she was asked to do another thing, and she got the appropiate note for not doing it.

True, but still. I still think such an assignment is inappropriate....it should have been left to be an open question in which one's preferences could be argued with reasons why they felt that way.

And I agree with that, but that's another completely different subject ;)

I do agree with your point there and I guess it depends on what type of class it was. If it was a political science class, I think the assignment was wholly innapropriate. If it was an English Comp class, it doesn't matter what you feel, you write what the professor tells you to write about.

I received a C from a man-hater once. I used the same paper one of her old A students (2 years back) gave her fro the same exact subject.
Is this really what you mean? That you plagerized a paper and you're convinced you got a bad grade cause the teacher is a man-hater? Surely you jest.

I could not write that essay. I don't believe it to be true. It sounds like laziness, asking students to do th eProfessors dirty work.

If you want an essay like that change the name & provide evidence.

agreed. even though she was asked to write about why Bush is a war criminal, she couldn't have written a good paper about that (or any subject) that she doesn't believe in.

if you're writing a paper with the goal to convince somebody about you being right, you're the one who has to believe what you're writing in the first place, otherwise it gets a lot harder to convince others.

it's clear that the teacher just wanted people to write papers regarding his opinion, which is an error from his part. with these kind of things, objectivity is important, not personal opinions. at least not if you're the one making the assignments.
