God-Damn Canadians!! Harboring AWOL Americans

We aren't rude just ask Gywneth Paltrow or Madonna. :D At first they said we were rude and stand offish. Now they love us, cautious and not given to public displays of affection is more like it.

We're not the most emotional of people, it's a strength and a weakness.

Ah, alright.

What is your opinion of the British, Yanks? :D

I'm British. I don't mind the sceptic tanks (yanks, rhyming slang) I think they are mis - represented in the media and they don't go abroad enough(only 7% of Americans own a passport compared with 80% of British people. Its har to defend yourself when you stay at home.

Canadians on the other hand. I meet them all the time, tres nice people.

Only 7% have a passport because the other 93% can find its equivalent here.

Most countries don't go from 282 feet / 86 meters below sea level to 14,494 feet / 4418 meters above. They seldomly contain virtually every type of micorclimate imaginable? They don't tend to have virtually every world language spoken somewhere within its borders. WE don't have passports because we brought the world to us. Well, I lost mine, but still. :p

Update...The only thing is, he freely admits that he signed up voluntarily. Since that is the case, he had the chance, at sign-up, to try for a non-combat job. He didn't, so he waits until the bullets start flying to become concientious? What a load of bull. The man in this story, primarily, is a coward and a deserter...

even I oppose the war but he wasnt drafted. he should be shipped there since he volunteered.

If he wanted out that bad, all he had to do was get some pictures of himself involved in homosexual sex.

For those who are offended, get over it. ;)

Go forth young man. I believe you have travelled gonz? Ive been to the states and compared to what you see in the old world it really doesn't compare.

If you disagree then fair enough but we both know the staes are fairly boring

If you are looking for tiny streets with sewage down the middle or 5000 year old unusable architecture, you're right. Otherwise, after visiting western Europe, I'll take outdoors in the USA, thanks.

I'm among the majority that does not own a passport. Then, I can visit 49 other states without one. In Europe, go a few hundred miles in any direction and the language changes. (Well, OK, it does here too a little I guess, but it's still the same country...)

I'd like to see Scotland and the English countryside someday, but if I don't get the chance I won't lose any sleep over it. Maybe a night in London, but no more than one. It is still a city, and cities are inherently evil. Too damn many people about.

All in all, if I never leave me Appalachians again I'll be a happy man. I've seen enough of the rest to know it ain't for me.

Using that logic, for the most part, the same could be said about Canada. I would never make such a statement though because I don't believe any country has it all.

IN MY OPINION One of the things that comes to mind when I think about what the USA is relatively lacking would be history. Alright, I will say it.. not just the USA, but North America.

I have had the red carpet tour of USS Constitution, I have walked the plains of Abraham and the Quebec citadel, I did my basic military training in the woods of Borden Ontario, which was once a POW camp in WW2. I love the history behind these places, but to me they just don't quite have the history as other places in this world.

I would LOVE to take a year off, and just backpack across Europe.

I would love to walk the beaches of Dieppe, where the RHLI were sent into a hopeless battle against Hitlers Atlantic wall.

Or, how about standing on the waterfront in Montevideo, Uruguay. Looking out to where the mighty German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee was scuttled after the Battle of the River Plate

Or the beaches of the Gallipoli peninsula where the Auzzies and New Zealanders put up a valiant fight against the Turks.

The hills of Vimy Ridge, where the Canadians suffered some 10,000 casualties, but came through and took the hill. We captured more land, more guns, and more prisoners than any British offensive at that point in WW1.

Standing on Midway island, where the Yanks defeated the japs in the battle that in retrospect, was the turning point of the war in the Pacific in World war two.

I could go on like this all day.....

The point of this whole ramble is that there is much outside of the USA to see and do. I am sure there are people in your country that feel the same as I do.

You are talking about specific events. I'm talking about generalities. If I wanted to climb Everest I'd have to leave the US. If I wanted to climb some mountains, we have more than enough.

Let's just say I wasn't terribly overwhelmed with Europe. It didn't suck or anything, I just don't have a need for crumbly buildings, waterclosets, small roads & public transportation.

Nah, I was using using specific examples to show my point. America doesn't have the history, compared to some European countries that interests so many people.

I know if I was going on a pure historical vacation, I wouldn't go to the USA.
When I get some $$ saved up, I would LOVE to see Europe!

I just think it is a pretty bold statement to say that most Americans don't travel because they have everything in the US of A. I don't believe that for a second either.

Admittedly, we don't. Not even close. We don't have raw sewage flowing in our streets; for that we need to visit Paris. :lloyd:

Now that we discussed the french population, we can take a look at the only real reason to visit Europe, IMO...the booze. :lol2: I can safely say that I've been drunk on every continent on Earth except for Australia and Antarctica, and nothing beats a European drunk. :D
