Inaccuracies in Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth

The decision by the government to distribute Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth has been the subject of a legal action by New Party member Stewart Dimmock. Although a full ruling has yet to be given, the Court found that the film was misleading in 11 respects and that the Guidance Notes drafted by the Education Secretary’s advisors served only to exacerbate the political propaganda in the film.

In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that

1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument.

2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination.

3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.

The inaccuracies are:

  1. The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.
  2. The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.
  3. The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming.
  4. The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case.
  5. The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.
  6. The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.
  7. The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.
  8. The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.
  9. The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting, the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.
  10. The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.
  11. The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.

So, Al Gore is either:

A) an idiot;
B) a liar; or
C) a lying idiot.

In other news, hell is having a rush on air conditioners, Terrell Owens is an egomaniac, and Celine Dion has an enormous nose.

If only they treated the theory of evolution the same way...

Are any of you under the impression that schools have anything to do with education? It just a babysitting /social networking service.

What's funny to me is the conservative mantra that there is no problem and there is no evidence of global warming. There's a ton of it, but conservatives live only for now and the profits they'll make, and the fact that they'll be in their graves by the time shit really hits the fan and there's not time left to do anything about it. Fuck their childeren's, children's, children.

There is precious little evidence that global warming is a hoax, but unfortunately just enough "reasonable doubt" to keep the people stupid until it's too late.

Conservatives want government services that they use, (roads, military, police, jails, prisons....), but anything anyone else might need, (Social Security, Fairness to minimum wage workers, welfare programs, unemployment insurance, government regulations of corporations that want to fuck you for your dollar....), well they don't need it and it might raise their widdle tax burden. So fuck anyone who's circumstances warrant goverment services that they don't presently need.

Conservative = selfish, short sighted, money grubbing, and arrogant. Personal responsibility my ass. I don't know any liberal who doesn't believe in personal responsibilty, the only difference is that we also believe in community responsiblity, and working to preserve a good future for those that come after us.

Much as all you cons wanna live in cowboy world where everyone only covers their own ass (perhaps we could all go back to frontier justice and wearing guns and just taking out those who offend?), you don't, and we don't. We live in a large community, and it's global now and we need to be responsible for the welfare of it. I always hope and pray that one of you selfish short sighted fucks will come on a time when you need a welfare program (legitamately) and you find that it's damn near impossible to obtain and you lose some of your property or possesioons over it, because every time I have seen that happen to a conservative, their political outlook shifted left, and damn fast.

What I don't understand is why so many liberals seem to think that failing to agree with every particular of the "Great Global Warming Panic" is tantamount to calling it a hoax. The simple fact is that the verifiable evidence in no way supports the dire predictions. In fact, they had to increase the global increase in CO2 levels by a factor of ten in the computer models to come up with the dire predictions in the first place. Yes, the climate is clearly changing. As it has done for millions of years and will continue to do long after we're gone. There is some evidence (although there is also contradictory evidence) that human society is affecting it in a minor way. The political aspect is simply that the folks in charge (liberal, conservative or whatever they want to call themselves this week) want you to be afraid. They want you to be afraid of climate change just like they want you to be afraid of muslims and commies and greedy corporations, oh my...

Here's a quote for you to ponder:
Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous (global warming) is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are...

--Al Gore

I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations
Here's a more important question. Why is so much of the first world determined to keep the third world in abject poverty? Shouldn't that be a liberal paradigm?

Another point to ponder: How heavily invested is Gore in the "Global Warming" industry. That film is an infomercial.

Read some of this then follow up on some of the information presented. Interesting.

What's funny to me is the conservative mantra that there is no problem and there is no evidence of global warming. .

There is a ton of evidence. there are shark teeth big as a phone book in the mountains near my house, 400 feet ABOVE sea-level.

So Ice ages happen, what are you going to do, stop it. We have affected the climate, obviously, but we aren't going to cause a major difference (unless we steal all the winds energy with wind-turbines, soon there will be no wind)

It seems to me that Algores panties are tightening up due to science coming forth and debunking him.

As for the rest of your stupid shit. . . .

Put this on your car & make them that believe they are greener than you envious ;)

Al Gore started a "carbon offset" business in which he takes money from his left pocket and places it in his right pocket and says" I live a carbon neutral lifestyle because I buy carbon offsets". He buys them from himself.

Either go to video.google.com and find "The Great Global Warming Swindle" or download it from http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3657722/The_Great_Global_Warming_Hoax using a Bittorrent client.
