HA HA HA America

You guys are missing out.

It's an artisticly made video that covers a lot of points indicating that China is overtaking the US as the economic superpower of the world. I wonder if all this is acturate?

It is most certainly not accurate. Their economy is growing too fast for proper controlled growth. Their infrastructure is a polluters paradise that is making two entire generations rife with lung and cancer problems. They are producers, not consumers... although they are starting to think about becoming consumers. The socio-economic model over there makes ours look tame. We fret and whine about the have and have-not gap of someone flipping burgers for 18k$/yr versus a CEO making half a mil. when over there its is more like 95% making 2-3 thousand and the upper tier making 100's of times more... and its not even based upon skill.. but rather patronage. Its a house of cards that cannot be sustained. The writer/director of that film has a bug up his ass without having the slightest clue as to what he is talking about.

We should be jealous of them? In what regard? Rather, they are jealous of us in every regard except for heart disease and obesity.

Closer to 80%, Unc...but you're pretty close to the ball on a lot of other counts.

They do have a few things over us in North America and those in Europe. Stronger work ethic, far more R&D and a near maniatical focus on higher education.

They need more resources, especially oil and metals, and they need to de-ruralize a good chunk of their nation. They also have a rapidly aging populationa and are feeling the pains from having had several generations with only one offspring.

Beyond that...there's not a whole lot stopping them from becomming the #1 Economy within the next 15-20 years....with India close behind them.

I still think that the higher education is still rather reserved for the patronage classes. The half of the population that lives outside of the suburbian coast still live a life of manual labor farming, fishing, and whatnot. They don't make it much past a remedial education. There is no need for it.

The whole one child system is going to bite them square in the ass inside of your 20 year window. The old are being discarded, the young are being seduced by the dark side of capitalism and starting to wane away from aspects of pride in heritage. For them to truly become a mega-mega... they have to ditch the entrenched communist system. It is unworkable with true capitalistic growth. They need to become consumers as well as producers. The bitch of it all is... they face the same dependence on oil as we. Without the next quantum leap in energy... rabid growth is held back for everyone.

In other words, China, India, and other developing countries were exempt from the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol because they were not the main contributors to the greenhouse gas emissions during the industrialization period that is believed to be causing today's climate change

I believe you're forgetting the 'cultural revolutions' that China goes through from time to time. Nothing like wiping out your leading academics every 20 years or so to keep the masses in check...
