Has anyone else noticed the expansion of the entitlement attitude?

that's a pretty flimsy chunk of conjecture. if it hadn't been for the revolutionary war the entire historical trajectory of england may have been quite different and perhaps IT wouldn't be a nanny state.

If it hadn't been for the revolutionary war many, many countries would find themselves in a different set of circumstances.

Okay, if it hadn't been for the U.S. they would all be speaking German yada, yada, yada.

If we were still under the crown we would have the same set of prohibitions on firearms, knives, cricket bats, et al. The Colonies still would have been far enough from Europe that they still would have been an effective fighting force against the Nazis. The resources would not have simply disappeared because it was not the U.S. There still would have been entrepeneurs that would have put the resources to use.

Yes, you would have still have the Common Law, Magna Carta, the Assize of England, etc. but you wouldn't have had the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights. We still would have been under a Monacrchy subject to the whims of the King/Queen. It is no far stretch to assume that as goes the Queen and the Monarchy today is as it would be here if we were still under the Crown.

I suppose it's possible... we don't know for sure, though. Additionally, Colorado would probably still be part of Mexico... unless you think America under British rule would still have carried out the manifest destiny.

yeah it's a giant and terrifyingly naive stretch jim.

you obviously haven't seen enough bad sci-fi to know what happens when you fuck with a time line.

Considering the brutality of the British the possibility of Mexico being a conquered part of the British Empire is not a stretch.

Ah, yes, everything would have been exactly as it is now had we not thrown off British rule. Got it.

I love time travel movies because it is always fun to prick holes in the probability -- except this one. The only time shift/travel movie which actually could be possible. Asimov had his shit together.

You don't have to look that far, dude. Just look North a bit - to Canada. The USA might've been pretty close to the same as it is now, but LARGER, as Canada would've been part of the USA, or .. vice versa.

Might've been called the UPA (United Provinces of America) instead.

One wonders what really could have happened had the british empire not lost such a big chunk. entire balance of world power coulda come out different. the course of various european wars coulda been different. shit hitler mighta ended up working as a vietnamese prostitute.

As long as we didn't have to say shit like, "bloody hell" and "Bob's your uncle."
