US Fires on Van full of Civilians, 7 Dead

This is horrible. On one hand I am deeply depressed about this, but on the other I can't blame them a bit for doing it.

The real question though, is this going to be the nastiest war ever, or are we just going to hear about every blessed thing that happens this time?

I've noticed that everytime a missle goes stray, or a crowd is fired into, there's women and children. I haven't heard that they've hit any civilian men yet. Funny how that works.

Yep, 4 of the dead, from what I read. One of the women wounded was pregnant. Reports vary, but I read one that said they fired warning shots, the van didn't stop. This is the same division that the 4 soldiers were just killed by the suicide taxi driver too.

Well, you can't really condemn them for it. I would be scarred for life if I was one of those soldiers though.

But.

In any country in that area, noone, ever stops when the bullets fly. You hit the gas, and duck. And pray.

Well, that's where you have to question the thinking, I can see it both ways, they thought since they were civilians, they could just drive through, and when we started shooting, they got scared and hit the gas. I think it's a horrible lack of understanding.

Dunno. Was it a new checkpoint? Was there any kind of broadcast? Were they fine until someone pointed a gun at them and the driver did what he's always done?

Prime example of liberal press. NO, I don't think the entire media world is full of Pjil Donahue types, but look at the headlines.

U.S. Troops Kill at Least 7 Civilians

U.S. soldiers fire on van carrying women and children

Why can't it read
Van destroyed after failing to stop at checkpoint.

That's what the story says
NEAR KARBALA, Iraq - U.S. troops shot and killed at least seven Iraqi civilians — some of them children — in a vehicle at checkpoint Monday in southern Iraq (news - web sites) when the driver did not stop as ordered, U.S. Central Command said.

I think we all knew it would happen, probably happen again. I don't have any solutions though.

Ok, we knew it would happen, probably will again, but the question...

I think whether or not they stopped at the checkpoint or that their van was destroyed takes a back seat to the fact that women and children were shot and killed.

Sorry Flav, but women and children can deliver a bomb just as easily as a man.

I wasn't trying to imply that they couldn't. Just that their deaths are more notable than a destroyed van.
