[This Iraqi] Girl's parents were shot to death by US soldiers when the car she and her family were in failed to stop at a checkpoint. (I'm sure she'll get over it once they tell her it was a mistake.)

These terrorists think nothing of having kids with them on a suicide bombing run. Hell, they sometimes even have the kids do it. That doesn't necessarily justify the shooting that apparently took place, but it's worth pointing out.

They should have stopped. Car bomb attacks are taking out an average of 10 people a day. Now that things are getting twitchy up against the election, security measures are becoming 'no exceptions' intolerant. Not stopping was asking to be killed.

when the car she and her family were in failed to stop at a checkpoint.

Not stopping is justification. Terrorists are also forcing people to do this, attempting to see where the checkpoints are, how willin gto shoot the military is, etc.

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

We already agreed to leave as soon as their infrastructure is rebuilt and they show signs of stability. Now, who is blowing up infrastructure, and who is destabilizing the country?

Tragic that this little girl had to witness her parents' death. Sad and tragic.

War is hell. Nobody ever said any different.

How about all the children these terrorist organizations enlist to perform acts of violence and terror? Is anyone trying to say that AlQaeda or however it's spelled is more concerned about the safety and welfare of children?

Maybe she can come live with you, TG. No, wait...impressionable minds and all that...scratch that notion...aw hell, just send a check to your charity of choice. You'll feel better for it.

They DO have checks in NZ....don't they? :errrr:

time and time again the reflection of disinformation pops up in your speech.

the most basic being the statement "these terrorists"

I ask this question;

Exactly who are the terrorists - 'us' or 'them' - ?

HOW can you be so sure? because you know? HOW do you know? HOW do you know you know?

because some guy on news-hour tells you so?

Nelson Mandela was once jailed as a 'terrorist' -

How long will it take you to decipher the catch-phrases and slogans that are being attributed to arbitrary values and meanings as a means to an ends?

if you continue to absorb and believe every polarized black-and-white account of the world-as-reality off your tabloid or television screen without stopping to consider what actually might be at stake at the hands of those who choose to deliver their own filtered version of information to you -

then we all deserve everything we get if we let ourselves support aggressive policies...

and this little girl happens to grow up to avenge her parents deaths ... who could really blame her? I couldn't say that I wouldn't do the same thing...she will now be another of the millions affected by this war so far to grow up hostile to the westerners that took this from her....to be pushed even further away from what freedom and democracy truly means and towards the false doctrines and propoganda of bona-fide fundamentalists touting the need to defend her own religion at whatever cost - she will grow up to hate. Hate breeds hate. It always has done, it always will.

stop, for gods sake - if you care for a moment - and re-evaluate the things you believe - if you truly believed in freedom, you at least owe a bit of consideration to the fact that for every innocent civilian that is killed - another friend or relative or daughter or son or mother or brother turns against you precisely because you took away from them all they know of life for the sake of your own ideals.

Umm... you still don't have a basic grasp of the definition of 'terrorist'. We've tried to tell you several times to no avail... so I shall not repeat it again here.

Nelson Mandela was a terrorist. It doesn't matter if he was fighting Disneyland or the great evil empire ... he was still a defacto terrorist.

Funny... I was about to accuse you of 'black and white' attitude.

I do agree that I wouldn't blame the little girl if she grew up with revenge in her heart.

It's a fairly safe bet that the assholes flying airplanes into buildings are the bad guys, no matter what little corner of the world one hails from.

This is a little story about Afghanistan... MrX is a soldier there. His job is to drive a truck in a convoy...his job is NOT to stop for any reason. Stopping means death via ambush. The 'enemy' is constantly using little kids and women to fake injury on the side of the road, or to literally throw themselves in front of trucks to force them to stop. Once stopped..the trucks become easy targets. The rule is...don't stop. Even if it means running over the person who just leapt out in front of you. MrX knows of two of his squad who are dead because they stopped. MrX will not stop. MrX will roll over an average of 12 people per tour and drive by yet another 100 wounded civilians on the side of the road. MrX will overlook people being shot in the back of the head a mere 20 feet from where he's driving. MrX will overlook people being raped as well. MrX will not stop.

Is MrX evil? Is MrX simply following evil orders? Neither... MrX is staying alive and delivering aid packages and food, day in and day out. Saving lives, day in and day out. Doing to good work. Right?

Who forces MrX to roll over all those innocent people? The bad guys who started using kids and women to set up ambushes in order to steal food and medical supplies.

MrX's name is Dave...he's in my Bro-in-law's battalion... he's back now, but he'll probably have nightmares for the rest of his life about the children who he had to run over (children about the same age as his son) in order to get food and medical supplies to the refugees in Afghanistan that he's sworn to protect.

Fucking stupid evil terrorist, I'm glad were rescuing the people from the evil ones.

I feel for your B-inlaw, condolences and thanx to him.

:bs:

They are the terrorists.

"We?" "We??" They deserve everything they get when they support aggressive policies...

Yes, maybe she will grow up to be a homicide bomber and Muslims will write songs about her--like this "Ode to Wafa Idris":

"My sister, Wafa, My sister, Wafa, Oh, the heartbeat of pride, Oh, blossom who was on the Earth and is now in heaven, (2x) My sister, Wafa Allah Akbar! Oh Palestine of the Arabs Allah Akbar, Oh Wafa! But you chose Shahada [martyrdom] In death you have brought life to our will. But you chose Shahada, In death you have brought life to our will."

Would you blame the relatives of 3,000 dead American innocent civilians if they should turn against a sick, twisted group of people because of the group's religious ideals?

Hey Bish, question for ya. How come there's never threads like this one at PiL?
It's a music forum. Thought that was self evident. There are some Newsworthy items that crop up and heated ones at that... but nothing like the RW on here.

The RW on here is practically a catch all for 'Trolling" - that is... it's as if the whole forum (RW) were dedicated to massive arguements, baiting, outright attacks, extremes of opinion and just plain ol' insult-fests. Should've renamed it "The Pit" years ago. It's not "news" ... its using what comes off the news nets to start yet another fight.

PlayingitLoud is a different place which happens to share some of the same people. You might as well be asking why 'these kinds of threads' don't appear in the Lunatic Lounge on here...the answer is pretty much the same. Just ain't built that way.

And yet, here you are.

I asked, because whenever I look in there, I just never seem to see anyone talking music. In fact, I've never seen a topic interesting enough to make me want to register. Actually, most of the threads just seem to by carbon copies of what's here. Minus, of course, a conservative point of view to argue against. Heck, even Tankgirl hasn't found anyone to fight with, and she'd fight with herself if you locked her alone in a room.
