... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Thursday evening to Friday evening...

Snow Thursday night and Friday may accumulate 6 inches with 8 inches possible in heavier bands.

A Winter Storm Watch is issued when snow may be heavy with significant accumulations. Roads could be dangerous and travel discouraged.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further details or updates.

This could be entertaining...the first good snowfall may be a doozy :headbang:

It makes things real purty when it's over 6". No, nothing by polar bear standards I suppose :D

6 inches? GEEZ! They had that in Brampton already this year and it didn't even cause a glitch from what I hear...pffft! 6 inches!

So you like a lot of inches, do ya Nixy? ;)

They're forecasting snow on Friday but only between 9am and 3, but then a mix of rain/snow Sat and Sun. Of course, I'm working in the office this weekend so I have to drag my ass in there. :eh:

Gonz, do you still take long trips when there's a lot of snow predicted? I guess nothing stops the trucks, right?

It depends. I have the final say...if I'm nervous I will not drive. I'll usually put it off for 24 hours if it's a big storm, that gives 'em time to clear a path. My rule in the mountains was, if I need chains I don't need to drive. It's harder to judge in the flatlands. Usually more than 6" in 24 hours will keep me home. Not so much the weather as the idiots sharing the road.

The forecast here calls for a low of 25 degrees (F) Saturday night.

On behalf of my fellow Floridians, we respectfully request that you Yankees keep your freakin' cold air UP NORTH WHERE IT BELONGS. :p

Florida, the land of newly-weds or nearly-deads. Or as I like to call it, "God's waiting room". :D

Gonz, that's pretty cool. I was always under the impression that the trucking companies put a lot of pressure on their drivers to get there, fast, no matter what the cost.

They do. If the wheels aren't turning money isn't being made. I work for a "private carrier". We are the manufacturer & to a small extent the delivery personel. 2 drivers & each is the captain of his ship.

I want snow - but the south just doesn't really get it around this time. It always comes for like one day in January or early February. It would be so nice to have a white Christmas here this year.

A white Christmas might be nice but as someone who has lived in good climates (LA, Phoenix) and bad climates (Chicago, Ft Wayne) take the warmth & be happy. ;)

Never fucking fails. When I have a lot to do on a weekend or have to drive long distances, this happens. It's 30 miles from my house to work, and I have to be here at 7am on Saturday till 4pm.

... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...

SNOW WILL RESULT IN ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 4 INCHES BY EVENING. PRECIPITATION MAY MIX WITH LIGHT RAIN OR SLEET TONIGHT AS RELATIVELY MILD AIR IS DRAWN IN FROM OFF THE OCEAN... LIMITING ADDITIONAL TOTAL ACCUMULATION BY EARLY SATURDAY.

PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY BECOME ALL SNOW AGAIN LATE TONIGHT AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES SATURDAY... WITH 4 TO 6 INCHES TOTAL ACCUMULATION BY SATURDAY EVENING. SNOW... HEAVY AT TIMES... WILL CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY NIGHT... THEN TAPER OFF AND END BY DAYBREAK SUNDAY. WHILE THE EXACT TRACK OF THIS STORM WILL DETERMINE THE EXACT SNOWFALL AMOUNTS... AT THIS TIME SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ARE EXPECTED. IN ADDITION... NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BECOME STRONG TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT... CAUSING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.
