Just how stupid can they get?

The last thing you want to do is kill the guy.

Tell that to the guys in the trenches and see what kind of answer you get.

Same idea..different circumstances. Not even snipers are one-shot one-kill. Grunts certainly aren't. Either way you look at it...if you still have lead in your ammo, you're leaving lead behind.

Shit left behind after wars crop up decades later.

NANTES, France -- Some 20,000 residents Nantes, of one of the largest cities on France's Atlantic coast, were evacuated from their homes Sunday while experts defused an unexploded Allied bomb from World War II.

The 550-pound bomb was discovered during construction at a medical school in the center of Nantes. It was successfully defused and taken by truck to a military base, where it was to be fully neutralized.

Police ordered all people living in a 540-yard radius of the bomb to leave their homes by early Sunday, but the three-hour-long operation was held up by a handful of people who refused to leave, police of the Loire-Atlantique region said.

Price of fucking war, man. The only real viable substitute for lead is tungsten. And it would quadruple the price of bullets. Not really a good thing in time of war, is it? And since that's the major component in light bulbs too ...

And snipers who aren't oneshot, one kill don't stay snipers very long. And are you gonna be the one to tell them that you're shortening their range by 200 yards, and increasing their windage by 5%?

I hate to break this to you, but the main killer in war is not the bullet. It's shell fragments from bombs/artillery. Those guys in the trenches during WWI were killed by shrapnel from mortars. They got wounded charging across the fields to the enemy trenches. ;)
