Learned something new

I'd just got up so you can't expect my brain to be working correctly untill I've had my coffee... :hmm:

As I look around me at the world I live in it's amazing to me that anyone's does at any point. ;) Oh, and I prefer espresso (or expresso as my lovely wife always calls it).

Espresso is for people who don't know what 'sleep' is...

Lemme ask you a question though. Do you think Darwin's theory has to do with whether or not we evolved?

i'm not sure i understand what you're asking. are you at some level getting to darwin merely as symbolic of a broader notion of evolution (and, it follows, rationalism), acknowledging that his own theory is a tad spotty?

I usually only have 2 cups of coffee in a day and the rest of the time I drink water or herbal tea. Well about a week ago I was visiting a friend who drinks tea non-stop... I've never been so wired in my life... boy am I glad I gave that stuff up!

No, Darwin espoused a specific and very well defined theory. Do you (as most people do) understand it to have been whether or not we are an evolved species?

Just as an aside, I don't think Darwin thought his theory was in any way "spotty" but rather it was well researched and carefully thought out. He simply understood what a theory is.

Interesting illustration of your original point though:
purely human observations in science may be ambiguous or inaccurate

We are prudy durn sure we din come out of some
Garden of Eden, unless of course yer some kinda
zeroth century throwback.

i don't think the validity of darwin's general theory depends on if we ourselves are an evolved species. is that what you were asking?

there have been several holes poked in or updates made to darwin's ideas. what do you expect? darwins ideas come out of spencer, and we know all social theorists are wankers.

me, i'm a neo-lamarckian... phenotypic plasticity really gets me off.

nah, not really.
