Materials to make bombs get through screeners at 21 US airports

They've been saying for the last year that the security at the airports
just isn't what it should be.
I'd venture to say that very little in the whole scheme of things has greatly
improve in overall security.
At least it's not near where it should be this long after 9/11, but we sure are
loosing more liberties.
I'm just totally pissed at the job HS is doing ATM.

security is a myth…

You can’t make a system of mass transit efficient and secure. If they really took the time to go through the millions of steps it would take to make sure a airport was safe you wouldn’t ever fly again. Nor would you want to.

What people don’t seem to understand is that you don’t gain security without a cost. The problem is the cost of security defeats the point of the system it is trying to secure.

The only reason terrorism works is because people are like cattle and get scared waaay to easily. If you want to make airlines more secure and knock a blow to terrorists at the same time don’t have a knee jerk reaction when something like this does happen.

I often here people talk about the “cost of freedom” but the true cost is facing the fact that you are not safe, you will never be safe. Don’t let terrorist actions dictate what you will and will not do. Because when you let them control your actions they have already won.

You can pretty much make a bomb out of anything. I can make a bomb out of flour, sugar, baking soda ... no... not a cupcake... a bomb.

Reinforces my general opinion of civil servants.

It's what generally happens when you task someone to do a job, and then have those who don't do the job dictate to them how it should be done...

While the fact that Homeland Insecurity took over airport security & the people cheered remains, let's start with the common denominator...

define
Materials to make bombs

Without that information, we don't know if it was lighter fluid or C4.

Simply proves once again that GW's war on terror
is succeeding beyond anyone's wildest imagination!

If they had the cajones to attack U.S. they'd be able too.

But they are all hiding in caves or already ded.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, that seems to happen quite often in gov't. service. At least those parts that I have to deal with.

Here's a good one for ya'...

I work at a passenger terminal, and we are required to take all lighters and box matches. Knives of any size must be in checked baggage. This is true even when travelling under orders...however...unloaded M-16's and M-9's may be hand carried on military aircraft only. Try working the X-ray and metal detector on those days, getting those 'deer in the headlight' looks from some airman/marine/soldier/sailor on his way to a war zone being forbidden from carrying mundane items whilst being able to carry a deadly one...even though it's unloaded. :D

Of course you must take lighters & matches. They might smoke.

That rule has nothing to do with smoking. It came about because of the "shoe bomber". Since we have to follow FAA regulations when dealing with passengers, and the FAA was worried about some nutcase lighting a fuse, all lighters and 'strike anywhere' matches were banned. Book matches...and tobacco products, are still allowed.

The You'll Never Smoke In This Country Again police may have fooled you but I'm on to them :D

My book matches where taken from me. :(

and the stores IN the airports are not allowed selling lighters nor carrying matches.

But you are allowed to bring your own book matches.
