Meow = bite me

England is England
Great Britain is the whole island
UK is Britain and Ireland (not Republic of Ireland)

Heh. No (to Nixy). The UK is the same thing as Britain, As Alladin said, it's the United Kingdom of Great Britain (exactly the same as the US and America). That means Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The Republic of Eire is its own country apart and is not part of the United Kingdom (and hence Britain).

:)

Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Europe = that bunch across the channel who wish they were British! :D

Shees, now there's another version that's exactly the opposite of what i've been told.

OK, so, Great Britain = UK + N. Ireland

UK = England, Scotland, Wales

N. Ireland = N. Ireland

Did I get it?

errr no, how come Great Britain is 2 different things? :confuse3:

Great Britain = The United Kingdom & Northern Ireland.

It's called the United Kingdom because each country was once ruled by a different monarch until they were united under the one monarch through war, etc.

Northern Ireland is not part of the United kingdom, but it is part of Great Britain.

Look at the example of Egypt with it's upper and lower kingdoms.

That's just weird. But I wasn't too far off, except for that Wales bit, didn't realize that was it's own enitity of sorts. What's up with that?

fUKers are weird man. :D

edit: no offense to anyone from the UK, i'm only joking

Ok, you can now kick me... I admit I got it wrong, but I've always thought of the UK as just the main island:

The United Kingdom is comprised of four constituents, England, Wales and Scotland which alone form Great Britain and combined with Northern Ireland and several island groups, form the United Kingdom.

So technically the Northern Irish aren't British... probably explains why they are the butt of english jokes. :D However the history of how it became doesn't change. :)

yep. :)

I never really thought about the islands before though but there are quite a few of them...

the shetlands, orkneys, hebrides, channel isles, mann, lundy, whight, canvey to name but a few... actually most of them are off the scottish coast which is probably why.
