More stupidty on the PC front

...but its fine if a woman does it to a man?

Whistling will never get a man a date..its pointless and rude, but not every woman finds it objectionable. This law though, makes assumptions on the part of all women. NExt thing you know, buying a drink for a lady, of making eye contact will become a punisheable offence.

Lord help the man looking for a date...approaching one in public without a written and signed affadavit by her parents and her two best female friends will become illegal.

Sheesh.

Smiling is probably the most effective mating tool there is. Not whistles. Not pick up lines. Not buying a drink (though that helps). But a simple, genuine smile will do more than anything else. For me, anyway.

they used to think ass grabbing was acceptable not so many years ago

it's jsut rude, maybe there shouldn't be a law against it, but obviously there has to be, if it's so prevelant.

I mean I would love to ticketbad manners, teenagers in the metro, messing up the seats with there boots

people who fart in elevators, etc

Pinching...it was ass-pinching. Get it right ;)

It's tougher to judge rudeness than you might think. In parts of the middle east, showing the bottom of your foot is the height of rudeness, in Japan, it's touching someone from behind (even a shoulder tap), to some, it's chewing gum, coughing without covering your mouth, spitting, meeting someone's eye, smiling at someone you don't know (too bad Rose), showing women's hair, children speaking etc... and it varies from person to person. How can you regulate something like that?

If I'm traveling to another country I read up on its history and culture, I learn about its traditions, including what would be considered socially acceptable behaviour.

It's a shame we keep regulating society. However, until we start raising boys and girls the same I don't see how anything will change. Even my "evolved" friends who have children treat their sons differently from their daughters.

Its just more difficult for fathers to cheer on their daughters the first time they're going to get laid ;)

In all seriousness, it's the fault of the parents that they don't teach their children personally instead of letting them learn their manners and respect from TV, movies and their peers. It's odd how some people thin k that the same mentality that sells movie tickets should be the one that their kids should be following, or that they should actually DO SOMETHING instead of leaving it to others. :p

What do you mean "used to"?

See, even your evolved friends recognize that

these are different.

Yup, which means that passive activity is rewarded in females, and aggressive activity is encouraged in males. Their sons will develop drive and ambition and their daughters taught to emotionally manipulate. If, through some oversight, their daughters also have drive and ambition, they'll be called "ballbusters" and "tough bitches"

:disgust2:

Could be. Or they may be called strong.

Only if they're brought up in a household where boys and girls are raised the same. That is, where they are both taught to be strong, independent thinkers who are considerate of others. Where they are encouraged to look beyond physical appearance. Where they are rewarded for intellectual achievements and encouraged to follow their dreams, whatever they may be.

Yeah.... in fairy tales maybe....

So, in your world it's not possible to be feminine & competent? We are different, from the genes, up. Little girls, for the majority, paly with barbies & little boys, for the majority, play with cars. Women & men share few of the exact same sets of interests. That is what makes the other interesting.

I never said it is not possible to be both feminine and competent. Of course it is. What I resent is when I see behaviour expected and rewarded in little girls that only encourages them to grow up and be women whose only tools are their bodies and their ability to emotionally manipulate.

Maybe I'm living in an idealistic little dream world but the gross majority of people I know with kids of each sex teach them that they are different while enforcing the ability to reach for their dreams. I know of so few who wish their daughters to become (lack of a better word) housewives. In fact, most disapprove of our lifestyle because my wife chose motherhood over career. Too bad for the future I'd say.

BARMY BBC bosses have banned reporters from calling tyrant Saddam Hussein a former dictator.

Instead, staff must refer to the barbaric mass murderer as “the deposed former President”.
