Only Americans are "Blacks"

I've heard this & was told something similar once by a Jamaican. Maybe the American Blacks ought to ask the Democratic party; "it's been 40 years & nothing's changed, whatcha gonna do for me now."

Black leaders say rift exists with immigrants

U.S. black leaders have failed to get African and Caribbean immigrants to think of themselves as "black" and have created a rift among the groups, a panel on diversity said yesterday.

"When we talk of housing disparities, education problems ... many [immigrants] don't think that affects them," said William Spriggs, executive director of the National Urban League Institute for Opportunity and Equality.

"Black politicians ... haven't been able to get [black immigrants] to buy into what white America is all about, about what white privilege is. Immigrants don't come here with that understanding. We have to change our language to let them know that these are their problems."

Many immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean do not wish to be classified as black, because black leaders here have failed to reach out to the immigrants and identify their concerns, said members of the panel, which was composed primarily of representatives from the liberal black establishment.

Because the Dems have the black vote in their pocket. Over 90% of voting blacks vote democratic. After 40+ years of hearing the Dems promises, one would think they'd realize it isn't working.

This is no guarantee of success with the Republicans or the Libertarians but it certainly can't get worse.

Not all. Just the ones they've promised to fix & haven't.

The blacks are still the poorest minority. They still have more legal issues. There is still racism (unless you're from another country & see there isn't). The neighborhoods are blighted, even with Jesse's help. etc

Of course it could. Not likely but possibilities exist.

I believe only the Caribbean ones could be associated with Rastafari, as most Africans have other beliefs (Rastafari was dreamed up in Jamaica, Caribbean)

Oh, i actually have some knowledge of this, from my Grandfather as he was a Dutch (Netherlands) settler in Montego Bay Jamaica, moved there with my Grand mother, i think, it was my dad that was born in the Netherlands after they moved back for a bit, Dad stayed in the netherlands then moved here and had me and my sister and Granpa went back to the Caribbean and died there in 1996, he said it was the best place in the world to be.
