I'm safely back from another occupation event, the west-coast port shut down in oaktown.
I need to give a big shout out to our local 1%'r for coming though for me. I was faster and more mobile, my shots were steady with the all-pro monopod he purchased for me. I will never call minx
'cheap' again, he truly gave the means of production back to the people with this one.
The ows movement, at least here on the left-coast, is nothing short of what I had expected. Commies, socialist and unions pilted with a plethora of small groups who are demanding something for their cause. Of course much of the event was filled with
hipsters who are just cool like that and others who have a street performance to preform for the unwashed and appreciative masses.
I'm getting great stuff, guessing I'd say I have better than 20hrs of workable footage. I've got at least 2hrs of topshelf interviews and events that are newsworthy. The majority of it is B-roll, incidentals, and less impressive interviews, a lot of that is great stuff and will be put to use.
One of the interviews I was conducting with a contract trucker was the lead-in teaser for the "Studio-B" broadcast on FOX News
(their guy was filming my interview along with me). OWS was the opening story and more of that interview and part of another of my interviews were used in their segment.
From this round I caught the union, who didn't support the shut-down, coordinating the protestors once we were on the buses and directing us once we were in the ports. I also caught protestors jumping on the hood of a car as it tried to run the line, then they claimed the lady ran them over. THEN she got out of the car and explained to my camera that she supported the movement and planned on messing things up inside the port if could just get them to let her pass the picket-line. There was plenty of pissed off people to give me what I needed and the protestors themselves never cease to provide.
The protesters are very aware of media and behave and speak differently when they they see the cameras. Overtime I've managed to get somewhat accepted and can get a lot closer than the networks. I need to get a 'pro-ows' video out there to seal the deal.
