If the get-together is after mid-June, I would have a week's worth of paid vacation time I could take, and then perhaps try to arrange for my "weekends" to fall the days before and/or after my vacation time. That would allow me the time. Also, I'm hoping to have my credit card debt mostly paid down by then, meaning I'd have the funds to pay for gas and Motel 6.
Mapquest says from my address in Atascadero to whatever it considers the city center of Marietta is 2,373.18 miles and estimates a driving time of 36 hours and 44 minutes. I might be able to squeeze a couple of hours off that, but not a whole lot since that's an average speed of around 65, which is a pretty good average if you consider stops for food and the like to bring down the average. In any event, it looks like it would be a fairly OK three days, or a very cramped and tiring two days. Maybe I could do 15 hours the first two days, and then do 4-6 the third day and arrive early in the afternoon to do meet-and-greets or something, maybe see some Atlanta sights before the day of the BBQ itself.
I could figure something out... but the week of vacation time makes things possible. So if I have something to say about it, then I'd certainly make all attempts to be there.
