Political correctness has claimed another victim, poor Jack O' Lantern.

That's one thing that I love about my kid's school. They have Holloween and Christmas parties with no apologies. They had a character day where everyone picked a historic person to study. They then dressed up as their character and went around to the class rooms and gave a speech. My son picked Davy Crockett. We got him a coon skin cap, a few traps, and he took my muzzleloader to school. It was a big hit and he gave a great presentation. Try that on either coast and see what happens.

It's not about the pagan aspect. It's about the fun of childhood, memories that folks hold dear as the grow. This anti-Halloween sentiment is pure killjoy through and through.

Keeping score in soccer

Many of'em have been 'discontinued' in schools. I know that my son's school won't allow Dodgeball, or 'running games' liek Tag.

We DO keep score in soccer tho'

We also have CHRISTMAS TREES and HALLOWE'EN Decorations

I hate the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality.

Competition teaches lessons. Sometimes you lose, people need to learn to lose, and win gracefully.

I am for all of those things. Your point?

Many schools have banned those three among others.

Tag and touch football are gone also.

I used to live in Attleboro.

How about musical chairs:

Wanna play soccer? Don't plan on keeping score or getting a trophy.

Then there's this today. Bye bye football; but cheer up. Utopia is just around the corner where nobody gets sick, nobody gets hurt, and nobody dies.

Fifth Grader Dies From Recess Football Punt
Wednesday, October 15, 2008

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. — A fifth-grade boy died after a football hit him in the throat as he blocked a punt at recess.

He collapsed immediately and could not breathe. Principal Carol Whitten said students summoned a teacher who attempted CPR while other staff alerted the Lake Oswego Fire Department.

The boy, whose name has not been released, died at a Tualatin hospital shortly after Tuesday's incident at Palisades Elementary School in Lake Oswego.

None of the other students knew the injury was fatal until Whitten e-mailed parents at the end of the school day, asking them to tell their children.
