Pics!

Back two posts only, braced up, then all 4 corners. These are PT 6X6's, treated for being underground. 3rd shot shows the bottom of one hole, and the concrete pad therein to prevent termite issues. They will eventually be encased in concrete.

Next round -
First floor joists installed, then the floor itself. We ran out of 10D galvanized spikes after a partial 2nd floor joist run, and took a break.

When the rest of the nails arrived, we completed floor two (7 feet celing- that's a 12 foot extension ladder), then laid in the mains for the roof. The last is my Bro and kid on the top floor.

I'm tired, dirty and sore, and I'll have to take most of tomorrow off work to cpmlete the walls and roof.

Sigh.

I still have ample opportunity. The walls and roof are going up today.

No power or cat 5. If he wants to surf porn, he'll have to actively hide it from his parents, like everybody else.

It should have a slide running all the way into the pool.

Considering just a regular slide built to deal with a 7 foot drop is $300, I think we'll forego the massive slide meant to cover the 25 feet to the pool edge.

What, no upper balcony for him to survey his kingdom? No stairs inside leading up? Where's the fun in that? Well, if the slide's out, how about a fireman's pole?

There is an upper balcony. If you look closely, you'll see that the second floor extends 2 feet further forward then the first. There's the balcony.

No fireman's pole or rope ladder between the two, because I'm unwilling to leave an open hole in the floor leading to a 7-foot drop onto plywood. Not gonna happen for another year or two.

We're building a climbing wall on the outside, which will be the only way to get up to the second floor. That limits the access somewhat, which is what he wants.

Ok. Howzabout a greased steel cable and a knotted rope for a little zipline action?

I saw that, but it looked more like an overhang for the main entry. 2 feet's not even enough for a couple of patio chairs. Don't you want him to be able to sit up there, with his feet up, picking off squirrels with his BB gun? Maybe a bottle of sasparrila beside him?

For the fireman's pole, you'd keep it outside. instead of going through the floor, it would be a step-off from the balcony. Anchor the foot in cement, and put a ninety degree bend and a flange to anchor the top to the wall above his head, screwing into the main post. Plenty safe (you can put a swing-in gate in front of it, as part of the railing) and more importantly, it affords a fast way down in case of need. You could surround the foot with your shredded rubber.

*raspberry*

I'd have used screws and a screwgun.

Look at it this way. You're building up the necessary muscles for all that heavy beer lifting you'll be doing in a month and a half. Where's Jr in all this? I hope you're making him do his share.

The funny thing in all this is HL doing all this work when Jr. is gonna go out the first day, come in after 15 minutes, and say he's bored.

'Specially if there's no fireman's pole. How close is the nearest large tree branch? Anything he can jump to/from and swing?

How about hanging a rope off the edge for rappelling?

No wireless G either, I'm guessing :(
