'Twas a glorious day.

No fish kept, too small. Streams are too shallow right now, so I'll go back after a few rains. Broke in the new gear though, caught a couple of fish that got released to mature, and logged maybe 5 miles afoot in the process. No phone, no racket, no snakes, no civilization. All in all, I'll take it over changing oil.

Only thing better is something to bread and fry. Not a bad day, by any means.

Much better to discover it now than her discovering it on the freeway.

I'm curious as to why you were up past midnight. That's pretty rare for you isn't it?

Laugh all you like, longhair. I require precisely two or precisely four legs; no more, no less.

God forsaken legless emissaries from Hell...

Snp, has anyone told you to go fuck yourself yet today? consider that void filled.

I spent the weekend at the Salon des Vehicules Recreatifs. 6 hours of touring the latest and greatest. Now I need to decide wether to buy parts and upgrade, or invest $17,000 in a new one.

It's exactly like an RV show, but with more class.

Blew my mind that there was a rep from the Louisiana tourism board on site. They're scrambling to try and rebuild a trashed tourism industry any way they can.

Everything in french takes longer to type out :p Makes our short stories look like novels. :D

I envy you your fishing opps. It'll be a while before I can do the same. :(

If I was to go for a new one, it would be this one

Just at the upper limit of the truck's weight capacity, but the dealer here has a garage that specialises in the small tricks that let you flex that limit somewhat.

my wife wants one of those pop-up doohickeys. says we're too old for the tent. :(

I've tented. I've trailered. I'll take waking up on a bed, thanks. Working fridge, stove, AC (ever see a tent with AC? I have.) Not washing dishes in the pissing rain. Not panicing that the wind is gonna blow out your Coleman. Being a foot off the ground as a new river forms through your campsite.

Gonz, I'll make you a deal. If you buy one, pick a location half way between us and I'll meet you, and we'll do the weekend together. I'll show you the joy of not-so-roughing-it.

my argument is, at that point, stay in a hotel & go to the park. geting your trailer 8 miles off the nearest road & popping it up in a handy valley takes some serious back muscles.

although, yea, it is harder to sit up in the AM after having rocks form your bed at night.

(do ya get the feeling I've already had this conversation?)

In a hotel, you never (if you're lucky) meet your neighbours. In a trailer campsite, you can't help but meet them. And setup might have been difficult once upon a time, but not anymore. Fully powered setups are an option on most upper end popups. Push a button, and up goes the roof. Pull out the beds, and install a prop rod for the canvas. That's about it. Unless you're wanting to hook up the hot and cold running water, the 120V AC, the drainage, heated mattresses, etc.

But if you're seriously wanting to get into that little valley, this is what you want. "15" off-road Dunlop® Mud Rovers (tires)" should get you where you want to go.
