True, but the Israelis have a reason to do so. They are living smack in the middle of 'We hate Jews' central. Here in the US, we shouldn't have those problems. And we didn't until last year.

Which Im sure makes Bubba Ray, County Sherriff extaordinare, feel rather justified in doing anything he damn well pleases. Power trippin' types should never be allowed into the job in the first place.

Yeah, but the "power trippin" types are the first to sign up. Self selection is one of the biggest problem with the CJ system!!!

Perhaps policing should be like the FBI or something. Pay them better. Make them more professional. Transfer them out of the area where they live. I think the State GBIs and FBI prevent you from serving in the district of your hometown for the first 6 years. Its an attempt at enforcing early mental neutrality. Since you know noone at your new area, you have no preconceptions about anyone. Theres less risks of inherint graft and corruption... and by the time you make it home after the first few assignments, things will have changed a bit. The people you knew may have moved on, been killed, or at the least no longer have any pull with the officer in question.

Its a good idea, but I wonder where they would get the funds to pay them more. Actually, what federal agencies have going from them are extensive psychological testing, a thorough background check, a polygraph, and higher standards in general. I was shocked, down here, you only need a highschool diploma. Welcome to "the south" I guess. I know, they claim its not the "the south" but it is for me!!! At least back in michigan they were just the dumbest college grads you could find (oh, ONE OF the dumbest, I may reserve the right to call some other field MORE DUMB in the future ;). Here, I'm not sure where they find em. Actually though, the ones I have met down here so far have been cool (to me at least). Maybe I'm not being fair. Its only few that ruin it for everyone, just like with anything else!!!

before I even read the rest of this thread, I'd like to add that just this morning, after the DC sniper did his business, ALL MALES on the roads were stopped & searched by the VA/DC/MD cops & the FBI. (response to)

Okay...let's put it this way...If you're going to have it, then it must be applied evenly. If there's a serial killer in the area, then the majority of drivers stopped should be of the race white male between 18 and 40. If you have a problem with drugs, then stop everybody. If you have a problem with terrorists, then stop middle eastern men. This country has a habit of singling out black men as criminals, and subjects us to indignities on a daily basis. You can say what you will, but if you push some-one long enough...

i didnt see too many pulled over gonz. and i live close to it. so not all males although there were more pulled over, i didnt see all males pulled over. i will admit that all that were pulled over were male. unless thats what your trying to say.

Why weren't they pulling over females too? ;)

Freako, do you travel 95 every day? With the amount of closeures I keep reading about, that must make travelling to work take a hell of a lot longer than usual.

no we usually take 270 to 355 to get to school and work(thats me and mom i dont know what she sees but shes only 10 min from my school so thats probly not too much. and it does take a while to get from home to rockville and with what happened yesterday it was worse. today wasnt too bad and we will probly end up taking backroads to get to school from now on.

If a person has been accused of a crime, regardless of race, and their race is an essential part of their description, then they need to stop that person. However, the racial profiling that is being done is not due to crime. It's due to the simple fact that small-minded people need to use intimidation to do what they couldn't do without the badge.

All things can be pressed to a point of abuse. We've experienced it from alcohol to nuclear power. Profiling has its benefits if used properly. It seems however, that it is very prone to abuse.
