One day, early in the morning, an attack was made on US citizens. Several thousand died. The group responsible for said attacks was from across the ocean, and had been slowly advancing on US interests for years and ignored. Once the attack, however, the US immediately went on a war footing. We attacked the party responsible for our losses, but we also attacked someone else who had nothing to do with the attack. The only thing we knew was that the person in charge was a very evil man, had attacked his neighbors (some of whom were our friends), and was even purported to have ties with the first group who actually carried out the attacks. What happened was a war that touched almost every continent on this planet, and deaths in the tens of thousands.

For those of you who took the time to read all of this, I'm talking about WWII. ;)

I feel that Mark Twain's saying, "The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning," holds true. That said, I'm trying to remember who it is that usually nitpicks almost-right words in order to divert attention away from the point.

A list of everyone who died in that attack

Perhaps how history repeats itself?

Edit: This was in response to a post that was later edited.

i would consider broad sweep comparisons to be a poor method of reasoning, given the massive differences in detail. notably for me it would hinge on the expansionist policy of germany coupled with its large military capability.

Hitler and Hussein both have mustaches though.

*In agreement with Inky

But you have to admit that every 50 years or so some moustachioed despot raises their ugly profile onto the international stage and it starts all over again....

Not sure what the point is. There are some very important differences between a terrorist attack and military aggression. Who should we have gone to war with after Oklahoma City?

WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL...To even suggest that we knew nothing or little about that "bad man"....To even suggest that Iraq in any way compares to that Germany.....To even suggest that our actions in Iraq are even remotely similar to WWII....

Maybe its time to start letting everyone know that the Bush family fortune was made during WWII by his grandfather...WHO WAS WORKING FOR THE NAZIS AND LAUNDERING MONEY FOR HITLER HIMSELF. Thats right folks ...just google Prescott Bush and find out the fine heritage that that gave us 2 of our last 3 presidents.

Funny how this cocky little cheerleading egotist reminds me of Adolf....

You're all sounding like a bunch of Bagdahd Bobs....

i think steweygrrrr has it right, its moustaches we should be making illegal, clearly they warp the mind.
