Severe Asthma Attack

Why the Children's? Chuckie's is not 5 minutes from your house.

His pediatrician is on Sherbrooke and is associated with the Childrens...about 10 mins from her office.

When I wound up in hospital, you were told quick enough that you had time to go grocery shopping and bring me a bag of oranges. I'd be totally cheesed off if that wouldn't get me confiscated.

You do realize that if it is asthma, it's bye-bye kitties.

Not really...h'es not allrrgic to them. It means cleaning up more often though....

BTW...as for Charley's Butcher Shop...M's would rather never go there again! After they bolluxed up my apendicitis, she wouldn't trust that hospital with a papercut.

My oldest Daughter jen, had asthma real bad. She started at 10 mths old. I hated all the medications....they seemed to make her climb the wall...and shots of epinepherine....ugghhh.....whenever the weather changes it seems that their blood vessels cannot contract and retract with the temp...thats where it all starts...this I heard from a doc at childrens hosp. Remember the cooler your home is ....the better for her....as she gets better you can reduce her meds so that she is not climbing the walls....thats what they told me...I also found that if your child likes vinegar it helps to thin the blood to help....like Tomatoes and vinegar....cucumbers and vinegar....( something in it that seems to help....I have delt with asthma for 20 some years with my daughter and now my grandson....yes! it is a horrible thing to see them in labored breathing...Hope all goes well and get ready cus every cold.....tooth cutting through seems to trigger it...along with the changing of weather... I feel bad for the poor baby...and Bish as well !!

After witnessing several similar incidents over my life, the sudden upsurge in (over)diagnosed asthma is a shame.

LIke all else, crying wolf creates a far bigger dilemma for those who are truly being attacked.

And why am I finding out about this on the fucking internet???????

And me from a fellow OTC'r...

But my hugs and kisses to jag, you and the wife. Love you all, and I know he's going to be just fine.

Asthma sucks. It's evil!! EVILLLLLLLLL!!!!!! I say we should find a cure against asthma. Get an asthma shot and never have asthma again!

Actually Bish, even if he's not allergic to the cat's they're still bad for asthama. My cousin's little boy had a VERY bad asthma attack caused mostly cause there were a couple cats living in the house. He isn't allergic to cats but one of the first things they asked his mom was if they had cats...and they told her that the cats HAD to go or it would happen again. My cousin being the dumbass he is didn't get rid of them so the baby and his mom are now moved back to Newfoundland with my aunt and uncle.

Anyway, hope that JAG is feeling better soon

We're both asthmatic and we have a cat... admittedly he's not allowed on the beds... but he doesn't seem to affect us... it's usually dust mites and high levels of traffic fumes or ozone with me. So I most often get an attack right after going to bed or when I'm driving or in town. Actually I'm a bit wheezy now and I've just discovered my ventolin inhaler's empty... think I've got some more in the kitchen...

I hope they figure out which one it is an he gets better soon Bish. Katie still gets croup and I know how much of a killer it is sitting up with a child having difficulty breathing.

Hey me too, I've had all kinds of problems with the chest area since I was small - bronchitis every year (which is a bitch 'cos I usually get it coupled with a mean flu - whole system just shuts down & I've been on a good couple of respirators), bronchial infections of all weird and wonderful natures, viral pneumonia, plurocy (sp?) and so on. Though it has got much better as I grew older to the effect that I haven't been sick at all in the past couple of years.

It does seem to get better as you get older... I've been hospitalised 3 times 'cause of the asthma, twice when i was 6 or 7 and again at about 10... not much fun at all. But I haven't really had a problem with it since then, a bit wheezy from time to time but nothing serious.

It depends on the type of asthma... sounds like you had/have childhood asthma which often gets better as you mature... I on the other hand have late onset asthma which usually begins in the late 30s to early 40s and doesn't get better. Although I can remember 3 very distinct occassions in my late 20s when I have asthma like attacks which I borrowed my brothers inhaler for... but I wasn't diagnosed until 7 years ago.

Since we removed teh cats from the household?
He's gone from 6-8 hospitalizations/year to 1 in the past two years. Partially from the run of meds that he did which took him to a certain level of control over the symptoms (1 year of Singulair daily) and partially from the removal of potential irritants like carpeting, books in his room (and other dust-bearing items), cats and the proactive use of inhalers when he's starting a head-cold.

Monday night still required a pump at 2am and another at 6am, but he's fine during the day.
