People only give to 'charity'
to make themselves 'feel' better

What's the difference between me and the less fortunate? fortune? I don't think so. It's effort. Me sharing the fruits of my efforts won't make them more fortunate.

Yes, things happen to people, but it's a matter of getting up and doing something about it. I work to have what I have. People don't want to take jobs at McDonald's or something because they think they're better than that, so they'd rather starve and take charity from others.

For the record, I do give to some charities. But never, ever to ones who pander to the unwilling. The Salvation Army has a long way to go in preventing exploitation before it'll see anything from me. I'd rather (and have done) take a bum off the street and feed him breakfast than give to them. I personally know one person who exploited the system and got a full turkey dinner, with all the fixings from each of half a dozen charities. We're talking a 10lbs+ bird, from each. And her kid's playing Nintendo in the living room. They nearly had to put the beer outside to make room for it all.
