French court rules pork soup kitchen not racist

PARIS (Reuters) - A French court ruled on Tuesday that an organisation with far-right links can continue offering pork soup to the homeless, rejecting police complaints that the food distribution was racist.

Police banned the soup kitchen last month, arguing that the handouts discriminated against Jews and Muslims who do not eat pork on religious grounds.

The administrative court said the distribution was "clearly discriminatory", but could not be stopped because the organisers offered to feed anyone who asked for help.

The mayor of Paris condemned the ruling and urged the police to appeal the ruling.

"Faced by this initiative which stinks of xenophobia, I want once again to express city hall's desire to fight all forms of discrimination, racism and anti-Semitism," mayor Bertrand Delanoe said in a statement.

The food handouts are organised by a nationalist group called Solidarity of the French (SDF). It says its "pig soup", which uses pork fat for stock, is country fare much loved by French traditionalists.

"No-one has ever been able to prove that anyone has been refused soup or clothes on the grounds of their religion or race," SDF lawyer Frederic Pichon told France Info radio after Tuesday's court decision.

"I want the free gimme handout MY WAY!!"

Pull on your big girl panties and get over it. Here we have a group of people trying to offer assistance. Naturally, that isn't good enough. We must demand that said goodwill offer of assistance be on OUR terms. Your religion prevents you from eating this food? Get fed elsewhere. Maybe them Muslim temples are feeding the people they aren't busy beheading this week. I am fairly certain that a Jewish synagogue (I believe that's the correct term) would be more than willing to provide an appropriate meal for the brethren.

Friggin crybaby whiners. Don't wanna eat it? Fine, don't eat it. But how about not eating it quietly for a change?

Well, if they used beef soup, I suppose the Hindu would be the discriminated race.

Some people will always bite the hand that feeds them.

If they were really hungry they'd eat it. Fact is that they're just not hungry enough yet.

I believe that both religions allow for the consumption of the taboo foods in a real pinch anyway... and a soup kitchen qualifies as a real pinch, IMO.
