Aren't the Democrats pulling the same shit today? They don't like some Judge so they filibuster instead of taking a chance at having a something happen that would be good for the whole.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose...

The lynching law would die at my hands too. Not because of any race-related horseshit, but because lynching is already murder.

Racist. How dare you say such things. We all know that a Southern white man's deeds are held to a higher level than anyone else's. Hell, make them fellers pay for stuff 200 years after the fact...it's OK. They're our American whipping boys...they like it that way.

While I agree that it's wrong to lay the blame for 'lynchings' solely on the hands of the Southern man, shouldn't they voice their reasons for blocking such legislation? Indeed...shouldn't all legislation being blocked be given reasons that are 'in the clear'?

1. If the legislation is being blocked because of what Inky stated, then the point is well taken...but Inky, not all lynchings end in death, nor are all lynchings reserved for minorities. The same crime could be attributed to 'riding out of town on a rail', or 'tar and feathering'....called 'felonious assault' today. ;)
2. Say what you will about racism in the South, but it's also in the North, the Mid-west, the East, the West, and every point in between. Most of it perpetuated by our media. If you don't believe me, watch the 'perp walks' on the news, and the pictures that come up for wanted felons.

Murder, attempted murder, felonious assault... still seems redundant to pass a law making it more illegal to lynch someone than to shoot them.

Depends upon the circumstances as well. Remember Rodney King? Beaten to within an inch of his life...on camera...and in front of witnesses...and the charge that finally came down was that his civil rights were violated? I'm sure there will be some dissension, but that entire scene was assault and battery after the first zap with the taser...

Gee if I was way over two hundred pounds on drugs
just finishing up a high speed chase and became noncompliant and combative and got a beatdown would my brothas burn down their neighborhoods killing 55 people, injuring 2,383 others, more than 8,000 arrested. Damage to property was $1 billion in protest?

Would the "Man" see to it two of the Cops went to jail for 30 months for doing their jobs and would the city gimme a $3.8 million settlement?

Nah who am I kidding this is Phoenix and I'm white the cops woulda shot me in the head, case closed..

So you're saying the beating was justified? I'm saying that the violence was excessive. At the time of the stop, the cops had no idea whether he was on drugs or not. The one 10 second-shot where he 'rushed' the cops beating him was after 5 to 10 minutes of the beating. He was down for three minutes, covering himself up, when he got up, and tried to flee. Question...how much of a beating should he have taken after the first taser? He was incapacitated for 30 or so seconds after that 50,000 volts shot through him, so why did they continue the beating?

Yes, at least they didn't shoot him like a dog in the street!

I saw the WHOLE video not the part the media played over and over and over and over on TV. Regardless of skin color it ain't a good idea to flee then fight with a buncha guys with guns that have societies sanction to kick yer ass or shoot you fulla holes.

The way ol' Rodney has conducted his life since then is a clear indication, again regardless of skin color, that he is a total fuck-up. If either you or I get into a fight with the Coppers I'd say we are just askin' to get assaulted or shot doncha agree?

If we both got beatdown just cuz yer black don’t mean “Oh it was police brutality” and in my case it was “Fookin’ dumbass got beatdown tryn’ to fight the cops, he got what he was askin’ fer”.

The moral of the story is: Don’t fight the Cops!

The moral of the story is not to abuse your authority. No matter how you slice it, the cops who did the beating were wrong. It doesn't matter if the victim is black, white, rich, poor, citizen, or illegal alien. There is a duty to uphold, and a responsibility to keep from crossing that line. Now here's a few questions for you, since you seem to like the idea of police using excessive force...

1. Why weren't the other people in the car bothered in any way?
2. How many broken bones did Rodney King sustain?
3. How long was the actual beating?
4. Did Rodney King actually try to fight the police, or was he just trying to escape a brutal and unnecessary beating?
and finally...
5. Why are the witness accounts and the police report so different?

I will admit the officers made one mistake.
One of them should have shot him to death.

Then perhaps it could have gone down like the
Dawn Rae Nelson thing?

He clearly shot an unarmed white women to death
while her 13-month-old son was in the back seat at the time of the shooting.

Why didn't people riot in the streets over the death
of an unarmed mother? Hmmm? You get one guess
and the first one doesn't count.

Oh Thanks I didn’t know that Rodney was a freakin’ convict on parole when he
pulled this crap, must be a shame to have a guy like that as yer national poster child huh?

Heresy. Pure heresy. All racists are in Dixie. All New Englanders are pure and right and perfect. All Midwesterners raise corn and drive big tractors. All Californians are gay vegetarians who hug trees. Long live our stereotypes...without them, we as Americans might just be forced to look at ourselves in the mirror and make some hard decisions about what we really stand for. And that just won't do.

I do wonder one thing about the King case. If they'd just shot him, would it have even made the news?

Possibly although the way it happened it was geared to. Him being shot could have also made the news

Yes it was. However, RK knew enough to lie still & STFU. He didn't. My city burned around me. Rodney should be in jail today for what happned that night. 2 of the cops shoul dbe sharing a cell & the other 2 should be in LAPD patrol cars. None of that is happening.

If you knew how many acres of corn were in Western PA...not to mention the apple orchards...and how many overt racist comments I've heard outside of 'Dixie', you'd be a bit more humorous in that rather biting scarcasm you wrote there.

BTW...not all Californians are gay vegetarians...some actually like meat. :D
