The mother of all potholes

Its a testament as to how absolutely sturdy C-130's are. Almost anything else would have ended up as flaming confetti.

Well that looks like it was a ways down the runway. Had they hit that immediately upon touchdown i think they'd have been toast.

How much runway does a c-130 require?

Depends upon how heavy it is when it lands...Check here

Infiltration and exfiltration may be conducted at overt landing
zones. Landing zones and lighting must conform to AFI 13-217.
The landing zone should be hard surfaced. Except for contingency/
emergency operations, runway lengths less than 3000 feet will not
be used.
Minimum runway width is 60 feet.
Minimum taxiway width is 30 feet.
Runway lighting must be available. (CAN BE COVERT)

Coulda be the pilots fault?
Could a controlled airfield situation
actually have had a guy in the tower directing the
pilot to land on that runway?

ATC dood John coming on duty:
"Hey John, there's is a BIG freakin' hole in runway 29L
don't land anyone on that one, OK?"

John: Um yeah OK whatever...

Couldn't find the distance on that page. Found this info on another page for the C-130 H3 Hercules though.

Statistics: 97.8 feet long, wingspan of 132.6 feet, four Allison T56-A-15 engines, four 13.5 feet in diameter blade propellers, 4,810 horse power, maximum peacetime gross weight is 155,000 lbs., wartime gross weight is 175,000, needs 3,000 feet of runway to take off and 2, 730 feet of runway to land, maximum cruising speed at more than 30,000 feet is 325 knots.

So that was at the end of the runway.
They might have been aware of the hole and just had a poor landing.

whoah...definately looks bad. those guys must have scared themselves almost to death, bumping into that hole without even seeing it

thankfully nobody died, that's for sure
