This joke will probably get me in huge trouble

I never said certain topics should be offlimits...but, I just hoped that people would have a little bit of common sense and feeling and compassion.

Without testing them does anyone even begin to have a clue as to where the boundries are? They need to be pushed & tested & stepped over. Everybody has a diferent limit. Some have no sense of humor & shouldn't mandate the limits of those with warped senses of humor.

Just remember, the only way to get offended is to allow yourself to go there.

and I don't know that the new buzzword of the decade, offended, is really the right word for what this "joke" could do.

think more along the lines of searing pain down to the core, right in the pit of your stomach, the worst emotional pain you've ever had being brought right in front of your face when you least expected, and knowing that while you feel that someone is having a nice good giggle over it. It fuckin hurts man. And I know that little scrap of paper signed whenever ago says that you're entitled to free speech, and you all love to fling that around when you aren't agreed with, blahblahblah, but gawd, is there something wrong with being considerate and not going around causing pain to others?

and when you maybe realize it's unintentionally happened, that maybe you just didn't understand the pain you may cause...maybe instead of sticking your chests out and getting all boorish and callous, saying others are tromping on your free speech, maybe you could just say I'm sorry... and take a little lesson learned about life and go on with things.

Nice speech, Leslie...I hope it's remembered later. It most likely won't be, but I'll cut, and paste it onto a word document so I can use it when I think it's necessary...if you'll approve.

Hmm, wondered what would become of that "joke" today.......

I suppose it's "good" that it hasn't been edited/deleted.....if it's in line with the AUP then Inky should be allowed to post what he wants.

A joke is only told in the hope of obtaining a friendly reaction from people......and if Inky wants to obtain friendly reactions from people who get off on baby death.......that's up to him.

Personnally........I wouldn't give them the steam from my shit......but they ain't the kind of people I would socialise with anyway

No, it won't be edited. It was declared a joke, and stands as such. Not a funny joke, but a joke none the less. Unless someone wants to take umbrage with it and actually request it's removal. I don't think Inky was expecting friendly reactions to it. What he was expecting escapes me, but i don't think he was expecting anyone to laugh.

Yeah, I'd be very interested to see what he hoped to gain from starting a thread with that joke.

It was a joke, next time you feel you might get offended read the subject. I can personally edit threads and put a warning, but c'mon people, it was just a joke. It is funny or it isn't.

And if you are offended, so what? I'd rather worry about racism, genocide, enviroment, nature or any other crap than to argue about a fucking joke.

I'd rather read and moderate a thread full of "fuck you asshole" than read all this crap.

What happened to the good old ignore and keep going?, or the :tomato: ???

edit: the remote case where someone who has experienced crib death and is searching for extra information and he or she by any chance is directed to this thread has been fixed.

What happened to the court of public opinion? Kangaroo Court?

I should be able (according to the free-speech fanatics anyway) to tell an asshole when he's being an asshole and what about him is making him an asshole without a bunch of other assholes telling me that I'm too PC...cause really, if i was PC, I'd turn my head and not read and never learn anything.

Personally I don't have anything against what you said in previous posts. One can have consideration or not, some of us have, some others don't, your whole argument is based in that he should have had more consideration, and I fully agree with you. But I do have a problem with people telling that he shouldn't have posted it.

And that's where I'm at too. You can tell him you think he's an asshole for posting it, you can tell him you think he's an asshole for finding it funny. But don't tell him not to post it, especially if it's posted as a joke. Please don't let this become PC only humor.

And Les, what does B.O.B. mean?

When I first saw the joke, I found it funny... but very shocking. It's one of those kind of jokes where the person tells it, and the other person's reaction is funnier than the joke. I'm sure the guy would have found my reaction quite funny.

But I didn't post it here to laugh at the responses. Let me make that clear.

I don't remember what exactly prompted me to post it in a broader community where I know people take offense at a lot of things, but very soon after I clicked "submit" I realized the great potential for debate this thread had. Sure, I could post something in the RW asking what you all think of offensive jokes, what the boundaries are, etc. But this is more of a "learn by doing" approach, I guess you could say. I think we've learned as much in 50 posts as in the whole time the RW forum has been around.

As for the thing about not laughing at Tourette's jokes... sure, they haven't tickled my funny bone too much, but that doesn't mean one never will. If someone tells one, I don't get offended, I don't call that person an asshole, I don't say they shouldn't have told the joke. I either laugh or I don't, and I move on.
