This makes me sick! (An example of why custody shouldn't automatically go to women)

How would that have benefited her Gato? She was arrested and put in jail for whatever reason, so she would automatically lose any child support & the child would be placed in care of the state until such time that a custody hearing can be held & proper arrangements made for the child.

By keeping silent about the child (and basically signing a death notice) she'd only serve to increase the time she spends in jail. So I don't see how she could view it as a money issue? Or how she would benefit in any way?

Oh & they were seperated, not divorced anyway, thus child support wouldn't be a question as it is only payable if the parents are divorced or if the court orders it.

Bish: Your thread title "This makes me sick! (An example of why custody shouldn't automatically go to women)" is not entirely true IMO - she didn't have custody of the child as an arrangement by a court of law - it was more a case of the father not living there anymore due to seperation and she was denying him access.

But yeah - this woman is sick & needs to be locked away for good.

Sorry, Gato, I disagree. She needs to be dragged behind a pickup until there's nothing left but frayed rope.

She deserves some very cruel and unusual punishment, that is for sure.

i guess they had joint custody cause the father is the one who found her is said condition

Actually...he didn't have any custody at all. He was calling in occasionally to say "Hi" to his daughter. After a while, he got suspicious about the lack of answer. He called the Mother's family, found out that she was in jail. Called her in jail to find out where his daughter was. She told him "with neighbours". He got nervous about that as the days passed. Went to the apartment, started asking around "Who's got my daughter?" None of the neighbours knew anything of it. He got the janitor to open his ex's door...you know the rest.

Here's ONE link of many

I just love the way you can all assume shes guilty on so few facts - she was charged not convicted. No doubt the full facts of the case will come out in time but I doubt they will be reported as these headlines are much more sensationalist and intended to inflame, not to mention sell more papers. A fair trial by jury... you've already hung, drawn and quartered her and I don't expect the rest of the country is far behind. :disgust2:

I don't see how it's that hard to judge her. She was arrested three weeks ago. Don't you think most mothers would have been demanding that thier child be taken care of? I know if I was arrested and I knew that my child, even if that child was my 15 year old daughter, was home alone, I would be telling everyone I saw until I KNEW that she was ok. This woman obviously didn't give a shit, I don't really care what other circumstances come out, she didn't give a shit.

You don't know that for a fact, you're making assumptions based on your emotions not your intelligence - exactly as the media intended. She may well have believed her child was being taken care of, in which case she wouldn't have needed to tell anyone in authority. I'll reserve my judgement until I know all the facts.

That's not how child support works. The payments are still made, as the Social Service bureaucracy and the law enforcement bureaucracy only cooperate when child support is not paid. Officially, that money is for the care and health of the child. Unofficially, it's for anything the custodial parent wants.

Two-year-old infant found alone in apartment after 19 days

02.10.2003
By DAVID USBORNE in New York
A hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, said yesterday that it had released a two-year-old infant who had been suffering from malnutrition and dehydration after being found alone in an apartment on Monday after surviving for 19 days on a diet of tomato ketchup, mustard and dried macaroni.

Officials at the Wolfson Children's Hospital confirmed that the child, Brianna Lee, had recovered after just 24 hours of treatment and had been discharged late on Tuesday. She was released into the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

"She is in good condition," hospital spokesman David Foreman said. The saga, which has shocked Florida and drawn international attention, began when the mother of the child, Dakeysha Telita Lee, was arrested while at work on 10 September on charges of aggravated assault and petty theft and was jailed.

The woman failed to reveal that she had left the baby at her home without any supervision.

The baby was found on Monday by her father, Ogden Lee, who is estranged from his wife and is in the process of getting a divorce. He had been trying to get in touch with her for two weeks and had only learned on Sunday that she was in jail. By telephone she told him that neighbours were looking after Brianna. But after knocking on several doors to no avail, he finally persuaded a manager to let him into his wife's apartment.

They discovered Brianna lying in a baby bath watching cartoons on television. She was naked, covered with a towel. There was dried ketchup smeared on her body, and urine and faeces were all over the apartment.

"She grabbed me and wouldn't let go of me," and emotional Mr Lee, 33, told reporters.

"It is really a miracle how good a shape my daughter is in. I don't know how she did it. I am a 240-pound man, and I can't keep from crying," he said as his eyes swelled with tears. "I can't even imagine how hungry she must have been."

Local police confirmed that the child had emptied the bottom half of the fridge and, in her search for food, had opened a door into a pantry.

"She actually tore the label off a couple cans of corn, trying to get into the cans," said Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford.

"She managed to stay alive for 19 days. She's quite a scrapper."

The mother, meanwhile, now faces additional charges of aggravated child abuse and is being held in jail on a bond of $150,000. A first court hearing in the case is set for 22 October.

A battle is now expected to begin over who will now get custody of Brianna. Meanwhile, she will remain in state care.

Once at the hospital, the youngster apparently quickly began playing with the nurses and sitting up. She also set about eating. In a short time, she had consumed four pieces of chicken, a cheeseburger, mashed potatoes, Cheerios and two pints of milk, her father said.

2-year-old survives almost 3 weeks alone on ketchup, mustard, dry pasta

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 2-year-old left alone for nearly three weeks while her mother was behind bars survived by eating mustard, ketchup, rice and raw pasta, police said.

The toddler was watching cartoons when found by her father, police said Monday. She was suffering from malnutrition and was being treated at Wolfson Children's Hospital, police said.

Dakeysha Lee, 22, was charged Monday with child abuse because she didn't let anyone know that her daughter was alone in her apartment, police said. She was jailed Sept. 10 on unrelated charges.

Ogden Lee, who is separated from the girl's mother, said he talked to her by telephone at the jail Sunday and she said their daughter was with neighbors.

When he got into the apartment, the youngster had dragged food and toys into her mother's bedroom and was lying in a baby's bathtub. She was covered with dried ketchup, Lee said.

"She grabbed me and wouldn't let go of me," Lee said. "It is really a miracle how good a shape my daughter is in. I don't know how she did it."

:evilcool: Give me a rifle-JUST LINE EM UP ON A WALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Asshole parents-URGHHHHH hate hearing this shit!!!!!!! :crying4:

We know the mother is a loser, but this line is what gets me upset...

Why doesn't the father automatically get custody after this incident is beyond me. Perhaps the mom is going to charge him, and her landlord, with criminal tresspass?

unless there is a good reason for the father not to. but in either case the mother should not at all.

Is there some kind of "due process" to transfer custody? Wouldn't be surprised if so.... :disgust2:

methinks there is missing info here. was there someone else with the child when the mother was arrested?? did social services drop the ball? where was the daddy? was the child initially left alone? i can't imagine not informing the authorities about my children if i was arrested......but three weeks alone? what about family or neighbors? no one noticed? this is way weird to me....three weeks? that child is either incredibly smart or incredibly lucky or both.

Have to agree with ya there Tonks - works both ways with dads and moms.Thank God the kid /kids were ok-poor things. Sick sick ppl out there. :cuss: Damn Parents........
